Kumho or Falken? (for 4th gen max)

I'm going to get a set of tires for my new rims, but I'm having a hard time deciding between:

Kumho 712 Ecsta Supra
or
Falken ZIEX ZE-512

Anyone have an opinion to share?

I have the Kumhos and like them. They handle well when it is dry. But, in the rain they spin really easy accelerating, and lock up, slide easy when slowing down. They do seem to have pretty good traction cornering in the rain though. The cool thing is that I have never had these tires hydroplane on me, it must be because of the tread pattern? Overall I like my tires.

I'd have to disagree, Michelins are a ripoff. I had Michelin Pilot XGT Z4s (Corvette factory originals) and their grip goes to **** once you put 5000 miles on them.

On the 17in's im running the Falken 512's (235.45.17), im not 100% satisfied with their dry performance, but they're not a bad budget tire.

On the SE16's (215.55.16) im running Michelin MXV4 Energy , they're good in the rain and fair in the dry, these tires cost more per tire than the Falkens did.

They have several different compounds in the tread that wear at uneven rates. If your car's camber is even a little bit off, forget about it. Those tires lasted almost as long as an oil change.

Falken makes a very sticky tire. But I have had one separate on me at highway speed, so I'm not a big fan of theirs anymore either.

*cough* pirelli *ahem*

Not if you are considering them over the Falkens. I also have the 512's on my OEM wheels and have been pleased with their wet and dry traction both. They are now my winter tires.

The 712s are NOT in any way an "all season tire". They do well in the dry and rain. But when it gets cold and if there is even a dusting of snow, the grip goes down to absolute nothing.

i have the 712 ecsta's and they are great wet or dry, they have the highest wet traction rating tires can get as im sure the falkens do too. Of course with snow an sht its a different story but that why they are SUMMER high performance tires. You want tires for snow buy some POS all seasons. also kumho's are dirt cheap.

The consumer report is still kicking our butts when it comes to stock, we have been getting huge shipments in so if you do need a set i suggest getting them soon before they go on back order again.

When I bought my 512s (225/50R17) on line 10 days ago, vulcan was sold out, discount tire's stock was "good". Bought from discount tire (edgeracing's server must have been either too busy or they were sold out because it wouldn't let me select the 512s in my size. When I called to try to veryfy they hung up on me the first time and the second just put me on hold without any notice. Their loss).

Depending on the size. Sears doesn't stock the 225/50 17 POS size Nissan stuck us 5th geners with the 7" rims. It's a "special order."

I just ordered a set of 512's from Discount (at the retailer...not online). They told me it would take 3-5 business days. Didn't seem to be a concern on availability.

I'd take the 512 to snowboarding cuz they're rated for "M + S", and the 712 for Auto-X

I've got Falken Azenis tires on my Max (245/35-19's), and on my Turbo Supra. Very nice quiet tires, good grip in the wet and dry, and the price is affordable. The compound of the tires is designed and manufactured to help reduce road noise, and I can tell you from first hand experience that they are the quietest tires I have ever owned, especially in the sizes that I run!!
