How are Hankook Ventus Hrii H405 on OEM 17s?

Edge Racing has them for $69/ea in 225/50-17 right now. Looks like they get decent reviews over at 1010Tires.com.

If you've read some of my other posts, I need to get some all season tires to replace my Craptenzas and I won't be putting more than 20k miles on my car before the lease is up.

I know they probably aren't going to be as good as other A/S tires - I just need something that won't be as dangerous as the Re92s.

Any comments on these tires? Should I just stay away or will these suit my short term need without any worries?

I posted the thread inquiring about the Falkens and the balancing problem and no one has really responded - even though I continue to read posts about numerous balancing issues. Thanks, but no thanks - not going to deal with that.

Thanks in advance....

I was tempted to go with the Hankooks too but was skeptical of edgeracing calling them "all-season" tires when no one else was.

I emailed Hankook and asked them, and they informed me that they were NOT all-season tires.

Hankook H405's

I put a set of Hankook H405's on my 2003 SE last week. We've got no snow in Minneapolis to test them yet, but here are my initial impressions:

- Got Discount Tire to match EdgeRacing.com, so they were $395 after tax with lifetime balance and rotate!
- Same amount of road noise as stock
- Absorbs sharp cracks and bumps MUCH better
- Smoother tire over roads and balanced perfectly the first time
- Wet traction is MUCH MUCH better with no hydroplaning at normal speeds in decent rain.
- I haven't cornered extremely hard on them, but so far they seem similar to the Crapenza's...ie not mushy or rolly feeling
- Dry traction is equal to the stock Crapenza's

I'll update you when/if we ever get some snow this winter.

you know as long as the tire has a M&S on the sidewall, it is a all-season, weather or not, i would stil use them in some seasons is another story. i bought my 2k2 and it has all of the potenzas, and one hancook, the hancook is about the only one i think is doing its job, the potenzas are just garbage.

Hankooks

I agree, and I made it through two Minnesota winters with the Crapenza's and I would expect the Hankook's to be orders of magnitude better than those at a minimum. I'll post my experiences with them when / if we ever get any snow in Minnesota this year!

Guys, I'm not kidding when I said I emailed Hankook asking them about the all-season worthiness of this tire.

Here's the email I received from their Akron Technical Center:

John,

No, this tire is not all season. It does not have any sipes, which help identify (but not the only requirement) a tire as all season. Their straight circumferential grooves will be good for wet traction but will not do much in the snow.

Thank you for your interest in Hankook Tire.

Best regards,

John Lofgren
