Weight of PZero Corsa?
Weight of PZero Corsa?
That is my question. Anyone know the weight of the PZero Corsa in 235/45/17?
I'm entertaining moving to a dry only tire for my car. I definitely don't drive in the snow. I would like to stop myself from driving the car in the rain and I'd like to be able to save the 10lbs from the windshield wipers. I would also like to not have to switch rims when going to the track. How do these compare to other competition tires. How much grippier are they than Summer tires such as Kumho MX or Toyo T1-S?

I'm not sure of the weight but I just ordered a set of 255/40/17 for my Z ... track only tires.... well other than the drive there and back .... I'll try and put them on a scale when they come in.... well if I can stop myself from mounting them as soon as they hit the shop

z32, please do post up that weight. Also, what tire do you run now? Could you please weigh that when you take it off? I'm not well versed in that size. I wouldn't know if the number you gave me was light or not. Don't worry its for more than just me. I'm compiling a weight spreadsheet of all tires in all sizes.
I'm still wondering if there is anyone that uses these as their street tires. Is it possible to get 2K miles of regular driving out of them? One guy on the tirerack review said he has done four races on them and could do two more. So six races = XXXX street miles?
I run a 255/40/17 front and a 275/40/17 rear on my Z .... the last set of tires were Kumho MXs I was very happy with the performance and grip of the MXs ..... I however have not been able to dial out the understeer caused by the 255/275 setup so I bought a set of 17x9s and am mounting the Corsas on those 255 all around..... I can't really complain about the past setup ...it took me to a 1st place ESP year end trophy in SCCA solo2 (cfr west) .... I just think I can go faster.... I did get the weight of the 255 MX but I have forgotten the exact weight around 28lbs I think 275s I think were just over 30lbs.... not really fair to weight them now .... tread is history almost corded on the outer edge
I think you could get 2k out of the Corsas... but would depend on alignment and amount of track time????? ... I got about 2k and 12-15 solo I and solo II events out of the MXs

Yeah, I realize that tread weighs a lot. If you could find the weight of the old MX's I could just add 2lbs to it to level the feild. About track time, I don't plan on doing more than two track days this summer. They are expensive as hel!. I'm saving for SC and a beater so...
Tireracks stuff goes very quickly so I'd imagine Pirelli is only showing a small selection of their tires. Who buys tires that big anyway?

I think the best thing to do to find out a tire's weight is to just contact Pirelli or even TireRack and maybe they can just physically grab a tire and weigh it for you. I've gotten tire weights by phone and email pretty easily before.
I don't know much about track tires, but I understand the Toyo RA-1 is long wearing for an R-compound... at the expense of some grip I hear though.

Bman, I'll give them a call. I'm not really a fan of Toyo. And the Pirelli in my size is so cheap. That does lead me to believe that the ones Tirerack has are old.
This site says:
So is this at all capable to be a very seldom rain tire?
This site says:
This tread compound is molded into a unique asymmetric and directional tread pattern that features a sturdy outer shoulder to provide lateral stability and cornering grip, while grooves in the tire's central and inner tread areas enhance wet track handling and braking.
I'll weigh the new tires and the old ones when I put them on.... looks like they shipped today so.... poss I'll have them on friday ? if not monday.... as far as the tires in the wet.... at slower speeds (around town) I think they would be fine in light rain... as for the interstate..... I think anything over drizzle would cause hydroplane condition.... I'm sure I will find out.... one of the event locations I run is 100 miles away and I plan on driving these tires to and from events
I called Tirerack at 4PM. I asked how much it weighed and the dude quickly responded with 23lbs. I'll call tomorrow to confirm cause I'm not sure I trust him. If they are 23lbs then they are 2lbs heavier than the MX and 2lbs lighter than the Kumho 712 in the same size. I'm currently running a 245/45/17 and that is 29lbs. So either way it will be a noticeable difference.
I asked about the old thing. He said he wouldn't expect this tire to sit in the warehouse for more than four months. He suggested that maybe it was some leftover stock from Pirelli. I don't think this is true. The site you linked has far less than half of the sizes that Tirerack still carries. I think the site caters more toward the Ferrari crowd and therefore doesn't need to feature these "puny" tires. LOL
Glad to hear that they would be alright to get me home if a sudden storm hits. I really want to turn this car into a hobby car so I'm looking forward to these tires. As I mentioned they give me an excuse to save the 10+lbs on the wipers and sell it off if anyone needs them.

The site I linked is the official Pirelli website in the US. I can link the Italian mirror site and they are the same 18 and 19 inch selection in 30 and 35 profiles. How many supercars/exotics out there come this day and age with 17 in tires and 45 profiles? None. My guess is that the last time Pirelli made Corsas in 17 inch size was easily five years ago, maybe even longer (also notice they are plain Corsas, not Corsa Asimmetricos or Direzionales). Of course they won't tell you any age, but the bargain price is an indication.
Here's the low down on the current P Zero Corsa "system" Introduced in April 2003 at the Geneva Auto Show as the OEM tires of the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale. The front tires were the Direzionales (to counteract hydroplaning) while the rears were the Asimmetricos (for traction). The system was introduced in the "super" low profile of 35.

I have a bunch of 235/45-17 weights sitting on my computer somewhere and the MX is light, but the 712 is surprisingly porky.
I wouldn't worry too much about buying old stock tires, as long as they're not over a year old or so. It's not like they store them in an environment that is really bad for tires, like outdoors in the sun or anything.
The 712 has an extremely stiff sidewall and this largely accounts for the average weight increase of 4 lbs over the MX. Kumho knows that the people that buy the MX aren't really normal consumers. They know that the buyer will be very willing to bump up the air pressure to gain back that stiff sidewall but still be much lighter.
of the tires I've installed.... I recall that the MX side wall was stiffer than the 712 ... if you really want a stiff sidewall .... go for Yokos .... I had a set of Nexus years ago on the Z.... it took 2 people to install 225/50/16s .. I hate to think about the lower profiles ...... I think the 712 is heavier just due to the construction... it is an older tire in Kumhos lineup
ok.... tires arrived today
Corsa 255/40/17 weighs 24lbs
Sumitomo HRTZ 2 255/40/17 weighs 26lbs
Sumitomo HRTZ 2 275/40/17 weighs 28lbs
I will post the weighs of the MXs after I pull them off the Z..... hopefully tomorrow

Just found an awesome test and writeup of three DOT legal comp tires.

I went to a driving school last year and the instructors swore by the Victoracer. I guess they have a lot of money to burn on the quickly disappearing rubber. I just finished reading the article and I'm leaning toward the Toyo. I'd like to see a review of the Corsa. Can anyone find one? Anyone have any other DOT legal comp tires they'd like to suggest?

well I put the Corsas on the Max tonight to heat cycle them before my event this weekend..... these tires are not for the faint of heart.... you could feel the grain of the pavement.... these puppies are stiff.... like a old man OD'd on viarga... since it was just a heat cycle I could not push them... so I will reserve grip judgement until sunday afternoon..... I drove them 100 miles on the interstate..... turn in is right now.. ride.... well they are "R" compounds
Corsas RULE.... I love these tires.... I just hope they last the season.... my car was much faster and more predictable on the Corsa over the MX.... 10 runs sun autoX .. there was noticable wear on the outer sholder ... I need more camber... I expected about a 3sec improvement.... however alot of the guys I normally run with did not make it this weekend... so it was hard to judge ... my only normal race partner was on a fully rebuilt suspension and driving like a mad man.... so hard to compare we normally ran with in a sec of each other.... sunday I was about a sec faster.... one car I rembered comparing my times to at the state championship was there... he was almost 10sec faster then.... less than 3sec on sunday
