Tire Choice Dilemma Need help

Ok, I have had 225/50/17 Bridgestone Turanza LS-V's on back order for almost 2 months. I need tires very soon. I dont want to spend more then 160 a tire(installed). Also I want something that lasts and is better at snow/wet traction then cornering and driving fast(which the turanza's fit). Anyone got some ideas. I am looking at the Avon M550 A/S but cant find then anywhere but tirerack. Anyone else got ideas? Please help

You might look at the Turanza LS-H which have the same compound & tread pattern, only difference is some internal belting hence speed rating and honestly, how often are you going to have sustained speeds of >130 mph anyway?

Also, look at the LS-Vs in 215/50 in lieu of 225/50 size......I have the 225/50s and they are huge -at least a half-inch wider and taller than both the Potenza RE92 and the Micheln Pilot A/Ss so......you can come down to 215 and maintain the same physical size as the Potenzas or Pilots......

I did not ask u what size tires u have, I asked u what size rims you have -as in what's the width in inches so I can try to ascertain why your dealer wont install 215/50s on your car...

First off, if you are buying tires thru your car dealership -meaning, buying the tires thru the people who sold u the car- you are getting ripped off bad.

Second, those folks have no idea about what tire sizes can go on which wheels because if u have the stock wheels -which are 7" wide, BTW- a 215 size is perfect for a 7" rim.

Bottom line, I suggest u go elsewhere...

^^^ My stealers svc dept has a chained rack with several sets of tires sitting outside in the elements for as long as I remember. Not the best place to store tires and much less buy from.

There is absolutely no reason why Costco should refuse to install 215/50s on your car. If he balks, ask him why is it that the GLEs (with the same dimension, 17 x 7 wheels) come with 215 series tires from the factory?

They are being **** as hell and stupid to boot.

The 5.5 gen GLEs factory 215s were 55 series 17s, not 50s. The speedo may be off with the 50 series, but they will fit the 17x7 wheels.

Either/both tires fall within the acceptable +/- 3% speedo error range -again, well within norms and standards furthering why Costco is being ****/stupid

Costco will not install tires that are not the factory listed size. HOWEVER, they will install different size tires if they are currently on the car. In other words, they will replace the same size tire that you you have on now regardless if it is the factory size or not.

I like buying tires from Costco, but the current set I have now, I had a different shop put on 235-45-17. Now, when I need new tires, I can go back to Costco and get that size.

So, somebody puts, say a way off spec 245/45 on a 7" rim, COSTCO will gladly replace these off spec tires with the same tire, but won't replace them with different tires that would be within specs? That is just plain moronic.

Get the tires installed somewhere else. I ordered tires from tirerack and NTB (Sears spinoff) gladly installed them for me. I also think Sears will pricematch tirerack, not 100% sure since I've never tried it.
