grooves in tires

I am considering the Khumo ASX and the HP4, but noticed that there are only 2 grooves in the ASX compared to the usual 3/4 grooves in other tires. Do the grooves have a big impact on how water is channeled out and resisting hydroplaining? I've owned a set of HP4's in 15" size and they are comfortable, but soft. The HP4's are really good in the rain and have 3 circumfal grooves. I am worried that the ASX's wont be able to resist hydroplaning as well as tires with 3/4 grooves in them. Can anyone comment on how their ASX's handled in wet weather as well as noise level? I've read the reviews on Tire rack, but would like to hear what people have to say about them on the Max.

Wet traction is my biggest concern.

Tire size i would be getting is 215/55/16.

No, you often cannot simply look at a tire and say it has bad rain performance, especially by judging from the number of grooves/ribs it has. Some tires work very well in the rain and have NO grooves. Tire tread design is a complex thing. Some maximum performance tires look obviously not well suited to wet conditions, but they are the exception.
