Tires for an 18x7" rim?

I can get 4 brand new 18" rims that weigh 20 lbs each for $300, only problem is they are 18x7", and i'm having trouble finding the right tire size. 215/40/18 fits but just barely its like 2.9% difference and the limit is 3% and i don't want a big wheel gap even though i'm lowered. I'd like to get 225/40/18 but according to the tire calculator the minimum rim width is 7.5". My question is, do you think i could get away with putting a 225/40/18 tire on a 7" rim even though it's .5" less then recommended rim width?

Hmmm, that's odd, I thought 225's could fit on a 7" wide rim. Hopefully a tire guru will speak up on this.

Yeah its weird on the tire calculator when i put in 225/45/18 it says it'll fit on a 7" wide rim but there aren't many tires in that size and the ones that are in that size are really expensive. Then when i put in 225/40/18 it changes and says 7.5" even though they're both 225 so i was confused. If they're both 225 i thought it should fit on a 7" wide rim.
