So, which tire for '01 SE w/ 17" rims?
So, which tire for '01 SE w/ 17" rims?
Ok guys Ive done some searching, and im a little confused with the numbers. Does my car need 225/50? I keep seeing dsome letters after the 50, like " something" What does that mean?
And finally which tires would you guys recommend. I am looking to spend $100-$120 and prefer to get something better than the potenza if I can (I got 60,000 on them so I dont drive Hard). I need to get All Season tires, so I believe my selection for the OEM RIM is very limited correct? So what would you guys reccomend? I def. dont want to be out of spec, and dont wanth the Falkens 512. I would really appreciate your help since this is such an important and expensive purchase, and I have no clue about tires. Thanks guys.

Numbers: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/general/size.jsp
Many other resources out there, the above will help. Also consider using http://www.tirerack.com/tires/dg/Sel...akeAndYear.jsp on the TR site.
Not pushing you to TR, just a clean entry point for your question(s). Net- "Google away man."
225/50 17 is the oem size you want to put on the 17inch nissan max wheel. you can do other sizes if a certain brand does not make that size - for example you can use 235/45 17 - should be close to the same height as the 50 series (measuring from top to bottom of tire) it's fun to do research on these types of things because then you can better educate yourself on tires. but here is what the #'s mean on the tire so you can at least get an idea - 225 is the width of the tire, 50 is the height of the sidewall of the tire, 17 is the size rim it can be mounted on. remember the bigger the #'s the bigger and wider the tire! good luck now go get 'em tiger
You can go to: www.1010tires.com to get a good idea of what's available for OEM 17" wheels for A/S tires. I recommend the TOYO Proxes TPT if you are going with 225/50/17. Ed.

Guys I am def. going to go with stock. But for some reason no1 seems to have these tires TOYO Proxes TPT. Mostly everyone has the proxes 4. Any1 know what the difference between those two tires are besides its size? And how do they compare to the stock Potenza tires? Remember I got 60,000 miles out of them, so I am looking for something that would last me at least this long, and be good in the snow and rain. Thanks.
225/45/17 has a lot of options as well. Speedo error = 3.6% too fast, so it might throw off the odo. too (still haven't gotten a definitive answer on that though) so it is a risk in that sense. FAQ in the 5th gen forum says 3% error is acceptable as so .6% isn't that far off. 235's = risky per what I've read unless you're religious abt tire pressure etc, ntm. they are slightly more expensive than 225's. I've had 225/45 for 30K miles, no problems. Just bought Kumho ASX's off of Tirerack today in that size..looking for at least another 30K.
thanks I might go with the 225/45 since there are more options, and Im guessing its not dangerous according to your post right?
Also how much is shipping on tirerack? And any idea how much it would cost me to install each tire that I did not buy from a shop? Also would i have to do wheel alignment after new tires the costs, etc.. Thanks,.

When I was going to purchase the ContiExtremes from Tirerack, they would not sell them to me because the size was not in spec. I then chose the Falken 512s in 225/50/17 from all the positive reviews and that they came in OEM size. I like the P Zero Nero & the Prox4's, so those would be two I would suggest looking at closely.
I am not saying there's no possibility that it is not dangerous (the lawyer in me makes me say that), but I've driven 30K miles and have not had a problem. TireRack and other sources will say that because the 45 series tire is 1" lower, it may affect your ABS system b/c ABS electronics depend on circumference of the wheel in its entirety. However, I haven't had a problem w/the ABS system kicking in, as I've had a couple emergency situations which required ABS turning on. IMO it is not as dangerous as running 235/45's because it's not like you are changing the width. Just the profile changes.
I just bought Kumho's from Tirerack for $97/tire incl. shipping (shipping was ~$30). I am going to goto Walmart to get them mounted/balanced for $10/tire (lifetime balancing/rotation). Only some Walmart's will do this. One near me said they don't do it on tires they don't sell, but the other one said they will do it as long as the tires are new. Tirerack also has some recommended installers and you can see how much they will charge. Usu. costs about $15-17/tire to get it mounted/balanced. Alignment isn't necessary, but just goto one of those places which checks alignment for free and see if you need one.
TireRack won't sell you Conti's b/c the load rating is too low. They claim it won't be able to support the weight of the car. It's more of the load rating, than a size issue. The Kumho's load rating is w/in spec acc. to Tirerack. They just call to make sure you know that it could be messing w/the ABS by going to a 45 series tire and that if you drive on them, you cannot return them due to this. They just want to remove themselves of any liability in case something goes wrong. Just say you understand that and they'll ship 'em out. Again, so long as the load rating is enough to support the car's weight. That being said, I bought Conti's from a local place 30K miles ago and didn't have a prob. at all even w/5 ppl in the car + 150 lbs in the trunk. I wouldn't recommend it though b/c it is still a bigger risk than just going w/a 45 series tire which is of the appropriate load rating.
Damn that was a long post..sorry..bored in class

Check my thread on the Bridgestone Turanzas...great all round tires: excellent traction dry(forget the torque steer of the ghastly Potenzas RE92s on hard acceleration) & wet (forget the chatter on hard acceleration from a stop), quiet, excellent road feel and handling and in snow, very good control, will spin if you accelerate too hard, but no sliding or loss of steering and on hard stops, straight and easy to manage. I don't know exactly what is most important to you, but these tires are perfect for me! Only downside: I doubt you'll find them for $120, but you never know.

just check tirerack.com they have a billion+ reviews for the tires and a rating system. if you demand on sticking with stock size, you are going to have limited options.

^^ the roads in your town must be made out of glass or you drive like a grandma. i only got 24k out of mine cuz of a nail but there's no way i could have gotten to 30k...
I'm at 57,500 on the OEM Goodyear Eagle RSAs that everyone flames, lol! They should be good for about 62,500 miles or so. I do mostly highway driving. Does that extend the life of a tire and if so by how much over say city driving, eg. 75% city vs 75% highway
60,000M...WOW! I was lucky to squeeze 40,000Km, a.k.a. 25,000M out of my Potenzas. However, they did last 3.5 years...perhaps age has something to do with mileage? I am sure the Turanzas will be much better than that. What is the weather like in your neck of the woods? Here in Canada, we get it all: over 90 in the summers and way below freezing in the winters, lots of rain, snow, sleet, ice and some pretty lousy road surfaces.
