Is anyone running 22" rims?

My friend has a 2003 and is looking to get rims and is wondering if he can fit 22"s. Can he? and if he can how is the ride? also is a drop needed (i assuming it is, just how bad would it look if he couldn't drop it right away) How is the ride and what is your set up if you have it dropped with 20"+ setup?

Thanks for input.

22 on a max is liek drving with your feet, yeah... you can do it, but it is a freaking terribly dumb idea.

I was running a 35 profile tire for 19"s...

I don't think 22s will even fit in there at stock height, let alone lowered.

22's would look like chrome wagon wheels. Likely wouldn't even fit in the wheel well, let alone allow for any turning radius. If your friend bought a Maxima to get attention, he blew it. He should've bought a Yukon and thrown some cookie cutter all chrome 22's on it.

Now if he wants bigger rims for a better look and performance, 18's or 19's are his best bet. 20's are as large as you can go, though most don't recommend going above 18 or 19 due to ride degradation and the necessity of running extremely low profile tires which risks frequent rim damage.

You can fit 22's. Click Here Towards the bottom of the page.

There is a guy who has a 5th gen on 22's too. Can't seem to find where I put the link. But anyway, there's nothing wrong with putting 22's on the max. I personally wouldn't get 22's for daily driving but for show definitely. I'm might get a set once I get my car show ready.

there is a cardomain page with a blue 4th gen that has 22s....but WHY? the 6th gen is a bigger car, bigger wheel wells from what i can see, but 22s are still too big. there is no reason to go that big on a max. just because they are 22" chrome rims that cost $3000 doesnt mean its not ricey. even though he isnt gonna do the Razor kit, Z3 fenders, and the wing that audatious just posted, chrome 22s on a stock max is gonna look dumb.

of course, there are some people who would say CF is ricey, 19s are ricey, etc, so do whatever you want, but still, this is definitley a mod i would try and talk my friend out of.

20" is the biggest you could run without any problems. The diameter of stock wheel and tire is about 25.5". That would make your sidewall 3" tall overall and they don't make tires that small. A 35 series 19" tire has about 6" of sidewall (3"cushion around rim). You would need a 15 series tire or the likes if it existed. There are only a few "cars" that can fit a 22". Those cars are: Bentley Continental GT, BMW 6 & 7.

I've seen a lot more cars than that running 22's. Magnums, 300c's, Caddy's, Etc. I've even seen a 2000 Monte Carlo on 22's. People get 22's for show. Pretty much for the "wow" effect. Example. "Wow, How'd you get those to fit on there?" When you go that big you don't care about peformance, just show.

As far as the $3000 price, you can get 19's for that much. 22's aren't that expensive. I know a place where you can get a set for under $2000 shipped with tires..

Make sure you post pics when he gets them..

"You can fit 22's. Click Here Towards the bottom of the page."

As I said above, the 22's won't allow you to turn the wheel lock to lock. I niether consider that safe or a "fit". The question above was regarding using 22's in the real world, not merely for a show. Why else would he question ride? Ride would be brutal - as in feel every pebble. Suspension travel would be grossly compromised as well due to the tire hitting on the well. So yes, you may be able to shoehorn a 22" in the wheel well for show, but that doesn't mean it's a "fit" as a daily driver.

Thanks alot for responses. My friend and I thought 20 was largest without running into problems and giving up comfort. He just found some sweet wheels that only come in 22's. We were curious if it was at all possible. Thanks again for responses.

If your buddy wants 22 inchers, gimme a hollar. My bud just took off two month old custom painted D'Vinvi's from his Denali. They have 305/40/22 Toyo Proxes on them. The whooe package had only been run 200 miles this past fall then he sold his Denali and got a TL. He might sell the whole package for $4500.

They won't work on a front wheel drive car.

f*%# it man. go big or go home! why not do 24's? 26's? or hell just throw 28's on it with no tires for "show" . cmon now fool, who, and why would you, wanna run 22's on a max. for the show purpose? yeah ok so what about the ride/performance? lemme guess, he keeps the 22's in the garage for "show" and everytime his buddies want to see this "show" car, he gets the jack n lug wrench and changes the wheels right where the cars at, just to "show" them? yeah sounds cool man, but can he "show" us how he would make his first right or left turn or is he just gonna drive str8 up his block n reverse str8 back where he came from?

I agree with you. Here are some pix of those 22" D'Vinci's. They look like monster truck wheels next to my car. Of course I only have a little 4th gen, but you all get the picture...

4th Gen - Impossible. Ridiculous. Kill yourself type of move.
5th Gen - Maybe, but why? Wheel wells/body still not big enough.
6th Gen - Looks sexy as hell. If I had a 6th Gen I would not be able to ride on anything smaller than 20's. Period.

That Silver 6th Gen on 22's is BAD!

What a sad looking waste of $. Wagon wheels. The arch of the wheel well doesn't even match the wheels curve because the diameter of the wheel is far too large.

At least he doesn't need a jack to change the oil.

Lol. True. But I doubt SHE changes her own oil. I actually don't like it that much either.

I know this has been said, but I can't imagine putting anything larger than a 19" wheel on a Max. Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions......

Titaniumax03's ride is the only Max I've liked on 20's:

But check out his page and you'll see the 20's are for show. He rolls on 18's.

Yeah, if you cheap out on rims, you could get 22's cheaply. But, something like those D'Vinci's I posted are some expensive wheels...

Are TIS wheels considered cheap?

20's look really good on 6th gens. They can look good on 5th gens too, but only certain styles. I really hate those "Lexani" style chrome rims...and spinners...

i would consider TIS a good brand of wheels, but then again, i am only basing that on the fact that the Tire Rack sells them. none of these DUB company has established themselves as a good wheel manufacturer. you cant compare TIS, D'Vinci, etc to Racing Hart, SSR, Motegi, BBS, etc. The 20+ guys have only been around a couple of years, these other companies have already made a name for themselves. But the people runnin 20s dont care how strong or light they are (very rarely). You buy 20s and bigger for one reason, to get noticed. So all these companies have to do is make a nice design that shines like a damn mirror to be considered a good company, not really concerning themselves as much with the strength, weight, or longevity of the wheel. just shinniness.
