Best size 17"

What are the best size tires for 17"x7 rims?

I used to calulator and got 225/35/17 or 235/35/17 and results are exactly the same ( interms of affect on speedo). That size is recommended versus my stock tires size of 215/60/15. What a good size that looks good as well as rides good. Not looking for super low profile but something decent.

thanks

Good luck finding those sizes in any category from any tiremaker (you'd have better luck in Europe, but not here), and even if you did find them, the likely minimum rim width will be 7.5 in.

I thought stock tire size was 205/65-15. If this is the case, then you may want to recalculate what tire size you need. Probably 235/45-17 or 225/50-17? I know that when i get my 17 x 7.5 rims, i will use 235/45-17.
Hope that helps.

some tires did come in that size, but i believe the saw blades came with 215/60/15. I'll check when I leave for class.

I found some tires that would fit but not as wide of a variety as other sizes I looked at. I'll probably pass on these rims and find at 7.5 or on 8 if i'm lucky.

Recommended size would be 225/50/17. Some run 235/45/17 as well.

Both. 225/50=> 7 in; 235/45=> 7.5 in. Some of us do go off spec and put 235/45R17s on 7 inch rims, but it's a calculated risk.

He's got a 96 max like me, does that make any difference?
also, would the 50 series tires be more 'comfy' than 45 series?

The wheel dimensions are what matters really, not what year the car is. The 50 series will give you more sidewall, which may translate into what you are calling a more "comfy" ride.

Depends on the tire. Most ultra high performance tires in 50 series will be less "comfy" than touring tires in 45 series, for example.

^^^ true. I guess if you're talking about the same tire in the two different sizes, then the ride may "feel" different.

If comfort is what he's looking for, I suggest the squirmy 512s that you all like in 225/50R17. Those make the STechs feel like an air ride.

Would 225/50-17 look okay on 7.5" wide rims? I don't want the tires to seem stretched over the rims, like i've seen before. Do you know what i mean? How the rim is wider than the tire...and it looks weird...

It should be fine. The specs for 225/50R17s call for 6 to 8 inch wide rims.

does anyone know if a 17"x8" rim off a 350z with a 33mm off set look good with a 215/50/17 on it??? would there be a big difference in the ride? the rear rims are 17x8 and the front is 17x7.5 with a 30mm off set... does this make a big difference?????
