Anybody runnig 225/45/18's on a 8" wheel
I have 235/40/18 Toyo tires on my 18 X 8 Mille Miglia Rims and am need of some new tires this year. (The 2 goods ones picked up nails late last year). I found a smokin' deal on a set of 4 used Potenza Re040 225/45/18 tires. What are your thoughts on these tires? Does anybody have an opinion on running this tire size on an 8" rim? I don't like tires that look stretched over a rim and I understand that they wear unevenly and expose teh rim to more dangers. Thoughts?
For most tires sized 235, TireRack lists the acceptable rim size as 7.5-9.0, with 8.0 being the ideal tire size for a 235 wide tire.
Your rim size would be perfect, with none of that uneven wear you are dreading.

Since your stock tires are 205/65-15, the 245/35-18 tires would be 3% off on the speedometer (too fast). TireRack says 2.9%, so I guess they'll be okay. If your asking about 245 size fitting the wheelwell, I hear that guys are using 245s with no problem, but I don't know the wheel offset to make that work for the 4th gens. For the 3rd gens (probably the same?), I hear you want an offset of 35-40mm to fit without rubbing.
If anyone else wants to check tire sizes, here is a tire size calculator link:

I had 225/40/18's on a 8.5 rim and it looked ok but absolutly no rim protection. I just bought me 235/40-18 but still haven't put them on yet. I would think 225 or 235 would be good for an 8" wide rim. I did't go with the 245 because i'm afraid it might rub too much. My 225's rubbed the inside wheel well plastic because i'm dropped on progress springs and my rim offset is 40.
I had 225/40r18 Kumho 712 and now have 245/40r18 Toyo Proxes4. The 225's are very thin compared to the 245's. When I 1st put the 245's on after having the 225's so long, they looked like it was too much tire, but now I think it looks better than it did before. It def. rides better. If I had to do it again I would have started with the 245's. And I also bet I wouldn't have bent a rim if I had the 245's.
The tires in the sig are the 225's
