Question for Tire.Pro
Upon mounting and balancing my new Goodyear F1 GS-D3s I noticed that one of the wheels took 1.25 oz inboard and 3.25 oz. outboard. The mechanic added the weight to the inside of the rim and used the stick on weights to achieve the 3.25oz and applied it to the area just behind the spokes on the back side of the rim. The rim did rebalance out to 0.0oz and 0.0oz and that tire was put on the rear. Is there anything I should do with this or will this be OK? I more concerned about what will happen when I put that tire on the front.... Does Goodyear check the balance of their tires before they leave the factory?

Each tire is run thru a series of tests for lateral/radial/static balances. Now I'm sure you will not like this but only until two summers ago did Goodyear hand check each and every tire off the assembly line for this. The unique molds lets say of the plant in Lawton (DOT start M6) have streamlined this careful testing of each tire prior to National release. The Goodyear Assurance line was the first to get this type of critical testing. Your question of the European design most likely starting with (DOT U2 or UO) has some concern in that if the technician indexed the tire to match the rim hi and low points. Another words dismounted the tire and remounted approximately 180 degrees then Road Force Balance tire again. Was this done? When you rotate the tires there is some probability in ride disturbance. If you rotate every 4,000 to 5,000 miles then the tread will wear according to driving / mechanical condition of vehicle.
Do you have a print-out of the Road Force Balance? If you do then check carefully that the Road Force LBS. should not be in excess of 28 LBS. If it is, this is not within tolerance, have tire replaced under condition GR (Ride Disturbance/Uniformity/Vibration). Your local dealer should be able to help. If not contact 800)321-2136 option#1 then option#2.
PS By the way the last 4 numbers on your DOT is the date of production i.e (DOT 1405) equals the 14th week of year 2005.
