Avon Tech tires.....
I just bought a 2000 Maxima that has a brand new set of Avon Tech M550 tires on it. I always thought Avon was just in the motorcycle tire business. Tire rack has these tires and they have hella ratings. Anyone else ever run these? What did you think about them? They look awesome and the sidewalls are rock solid.

i just got mine a few days ago. they seem to have tire run-out. the vibration between 50-70 mph is unacceptable. i guess i will talk to the installer on tuesday to see if rotating the tire on the rim will help. if they can't fix them, i'll send them back to the tirerack.

I just want to update this thread.
I had my Avons over the Memorial Day weekend and was not too pleased with the vibration that starting about 50mph.
I called the installer first thing today and they weren't too surprised that they were not balanced and worked on the car for another 5 hours today. The guy who actually did the installing/balancing informed me that he had installed one other set of Avons on a BMW a week earlier and said they were a pain in the a$$ as well to balance.
After balancing off-car, rotating tires on the rim, rotating the tires from back to front, and finally strobe-balancing the rims on the car the ride is butter smooth. The road hum seems a little more pronounced but that may be due to actually having some tread in the tires.
I have tried the tires in the rain and they are many times better than the Potenzas.
BTW if you are near the Cincinnati area I would recommend Performance Alignment. The place is a dive and the workers are kinda crude but it is worth it. You can watch them work on your car and ask question or just discuss car-related issues. They take their time to make sure you are satisfied and don't just feed you the 'could not duplicate' line.

Have had mine on for a few weeks now and have about 2000 miles on them. They are, in a word, GREAT. Best tire I have ever had. Smooth and quiet. Wet traction is unbelievable compared to the OEM Potenza.

Klutch, what is your opinion on these tires? Can you agree with the rest of the posts that the tires are "smooth and quiet"? Anything you don't like about them?
