Avon Tech 550 vs. Turanza LS-V
I went from stock Tuanza EL-42(215/55-17) to Falken 512(225/50-17). Wouldn't recommend the 512's to anyone.
I am now looking at these 2 tires: Avon Tech 550(215/55-17) vs. Bridgestone Turanza LS-Vs(225/50-17). Tirerack has the Avons for $110 each and the Turanza's for $144. I am mainly looking for a tire that handles great on all surfaces, has a super-stiff sidewall, and doesn't produce a lot of noise. I would also like to stay within the above 2 spec sizes and I need an all season tire as I live in Chicago.
I have read many posts in regards to these 2 tires but I am looking for some other definative info that will help me sway my decision.
Any other suggestions are more than welcome.

I know a lot of people are impressed with the Avon and they are #1 rated on tirerack. I am not sure if they will satisfy your winter driving requirements, but for $136 less (plus tax if any), I would be inclined to get them over the Turanza LS-Vs.
What about Pirelli Pzero-Nero and Toyo Proxes 4? Do they come in your size?

I thought that the Avon 550s were all season tires.
The Toyo Proxes 4 were originally one of the tires that I was looking at but it didn't come in a 215/55-17 or 225/50-17. I will however look into the Pirelli's.
