275x40/17 on an 8" wide rim?

I'm considering a set of Nitto NT555Rs in 275x40/17 to mount on my 17x8 rims. I know it might look strange, but im ir will kick A S S for traction on the street. But is that too wide of a tire. Nitto recomends a 9" wide rim minimum, any experiance or opinions on this?

That tire is way too wide for the wheel. You're better off with tall 245's, since you're car isn't set up for handling, the long tire footprint will help straight line traction and have less aero drag.

No way you'll be able to mount 275s. 235s or 245s are your choices

dont do it. 8" is wayyyy too narrow for 275, ur gonna mess up the tire on the sidewalls

Ya, Nitto's specs call for a 9-11" rim. Going that small especially if you're gonna push the envelope is asking for problems (read danger).

I had some Toyo T1S 275-45-17s mounted on an old set of 8" wheels that I had.. they weren't tood bad, but rubbed my fenders so I only ran them at auto X a couple times...

I would be a bit more wary of the 275-40 though. that extra 1/2" of sidewall height makes a big difference when you're trying to fit a 10.8" wide tire on an 8" wide wheel.
