Toyo Proxes 4 on stock 17"s

My cousin works for a tire dealership who can get me these at $80, down from $130. Needless to say I'm going to do it. This size will work right, 225/45ZR17? Only the sidewall is slightly smaller so more wheel gap. I should be fine with the speedo and everything, right?

225/50R17 or 235/45R17 if you want an exact match.

Wouldn't 235 be wider? Why wouldn't the 225 fit?

It throws the speedo off more than the two blackcat posted. The 235/45s are not an exact match but its close enough that the difference is insignificant/not noticeable. 235/45R17 sized tires are used by many on the .org with no problems... myself included.

I'm considering the Proxes 4's in 235/45/17 as well, but am concerned about the additional wheel gap since the tire is .5" smaller in diameter than stock and the lower profile sidewall creates the illusion of more gap. I'll be interested to see pics if you go w/ this setup.

Alright, I'm picking these up this weekend. I have them uninstalled for $370. It shouldn't cost too much to get them mounted because I know a local mechanic who might do it for me for cheap.

I'll let everyone know how it turns out. I have a feeling there will be more wheel gap but not significantly. I just can't wait to get these POS Coopers off. They are loud, thrumming and horrible in wet conditions.

Toyo's the way to go! I have Nitto NT 555 but wanted to get Toyo's but I didn't have enough $$$ in my communion money jar! JK! 235/45 17 is a good size and you will probably not even notice the difference in sidewall height compared to the 225/50's that come stock on the max 17's. Good luck with the Toyos. Let us know how they turn out for you! Peace Player!

This is my 5th gen with stock Lancer Evo's, 17" with 235/45/17 Kumho's. I think the fit and look is perfect. Don't mind the "dirty as all h-ll" tires!

After running the tire calculator, isn't 245/45/17 closer to stock diameter than 235/45/17? How does 245/45/17 fit on stock 17" rims?

Update:

Compared to the Cooper Lifeliner Touring tires that were on the car from the previous owner, these tires are worlds above. I'm thinking snow traction will be the only that traction that suffers.

Below are pics, wheel gap included. It isn't that much worse than stock rubber. I want to drop the car but haven't yet. Size is 235/45 17.

Yea, wondering about the same thing. Only .2 inch difference in diameter from stock

my car came with 225/45R17 from the previous owner, i dont think it looks that bad at all, although I will be dropping soon that should help with the added gap.....

Anyone know what psi I should run these at? I have them at stock 32 right now but the side walls look a little flexed.

You know what I forgot to comment on that. I just finished a 400 mile trip with them to break them in. The tires I had on before started to thrum after a while but were quiet when they were new as they were touring tires. These tires have a high pitched hum above 60 mph. It doesn't both me at all but I can tell the difference. Any speed under that they make no noise whatsoever.

Why so low in the rear?

Other than that, would you recommend these tires. Any other bad qualities?

So far, yes I would completely recommend them. Like I said, I'm sure snow traction will suffer compared to a standard all season but everything seems good so far. Ride is smooth, compliant and they grip incredibly well. Sidewall strength is good. These things grip in the rain almost as good as my previous tires did dry.

How does your car handle with these tires since you drive a 5.5gen 6spd? Does having the more power then the 5th gen still get good results for this tire?
I was reading some reviews on 1010tires.com on these tires and the only complaints on them were treadwear and handling in the rain. What did you think about these two points?

Thanks for the advice.

Well I decided on the Toyo Proxes 4 over the Avon Tech 550's a/s and all I can say after one day impressions is WOW!!! WOW!! I went with 235/45R17 from Treadepot.com for $108 a piece with free shipping. I ordered them this past Tuesday and got them the next day. Gettting them that quick was great. Then I got them mounted and balanced on Friday for $40.

These tires are great looking and perform awesomely. In my opinion the wheel gap looks the same as stock size tire. I am glad I replaced the potenzas with these tires because it was like day and night. Handing is a lot better, smoother ride than oem tire, great tread pattern, and lighter than potenzas. These tires are quiet at any speed and no vibration at all at the steering wheel. So far so good and will try to review at higher mileage interval.

I was just wondering what people set their psi at on these size tires? Thanks.

I have been wondering if it is posible to fit the 245/45-17 tire? It is a better fit then the 235 tire, however I am worried about the tire section width. It looks like with the stock tire there is only about 1" distance between the side-wall and the front strut tube...so the 245 may be too close to make it work safely...

In addition to the above, has anyone had a chance to use these in a typical mid-western state snow?
