Kumho ECSTA ASX vs. Falken Ziex ZE-512

I've done the research on tirerack and discounttires, and it's come down to these tires. I saw the review on the Falkens, but I'm looking for a deciding opinion between these all-season tires.

Thanks.

Still riding on the crapenzas? Whatever you're riding on, do you like your handling, comfort, steering response? I can't speak for the ASXs, but if you like your steering response and cornering stability, stay away from the 512s. If you want a "plush" ride, then the 512s may be for you.

My experience (3300 miles only) with the 512s (225/50R17) is that they were just too sloppy for my taste. By sloppy I mean floaty and imprecise, rolling on the rims with every type of steering input (even cross winds made the car wiggle). Put them on a minivan or granny car, not on a max that gets pushed every so often.

I have ASXs, and for the money, I think they are great. Are there summer-only tires that cost the same that have better dry traction? Probably. But these have great dry and wet traction for an all-season, and from what reviews I've read it seems they can last 30k miles or more.

How is the noise level on the ASXs??? Are they quiet? What do you compare them to?

Are they responsive to steering input?

Thanks!

They are quiet compared to my old Pirellis.....not sure if that's saying much or not. Steering input is fine. They tend to track, but I've never encountered a 235/40 size tire that hasn't.

for the ASX. I ran them on my 240 and have them on my Max. They are fairly quite, and have great traction in dry/wet. I found them to be a better tire than my Yokahoma ES100's, which were noisy as hell. Not sure how they handle in the snow, should find out this winter though.

I've got the ASX. Not noisy at all.

Seems like ASX is the way to go.
I'm still on riding dangerously on craptenzas, so anything will be an improvement. I also considered Avon Tech M550 because of the rave reviews on tirerack, but I am worried about the flat spots and cupping that seems to occur.
Thanks.

I used to think that way until I had the 512s put on, but then they sucked the fun out of driving my car. Whatever you end up going with, make sure you can take them back if you don't like them.

People with ASX, is acceleration still as good as with protenzas? The reason I’m asking is because ASX are 4 pounds heavier which means that acceleration should be a little slower.

BTW: What do you guys thing about Toyo proxes?

I have the ASX on right now. It's great in wet, not too noisy and even handles light snow well. Actually the only tire you could get that would be a better performing tire than the ASX is the Continental Contiextreme contact. But they are almost never in stock and a bit more money.

Get the ASX, save some dough and enjoy. Oh yeah... I have 23K miles on them and very little signs of wearing.

I've had the Falken 512s for quite a while and enjoy spirited driving every once in a while and I have no complaints at all about the Falkens and I'd def recommend them. I have not tried the Kumho ASX however, but I know the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s suck hardcore from 2 of my friends...Toyo Proxes are good as well..both the T1-S (better for all conditions) and FZ-4 (better for dry conditions)

I agree Kruppa, I had the Kuhmo 712's and they lasted about 17K miles and were like wearing skis in rain and slush. But they came with the rims. The ASX's are way better.

Put the Kumhos on yesterday and everything is good so far - granted, anything is better than the craptenzas. I have yet to push the tires, but I'm eager to see how they'll handle rain & snow.
