Toyo Proxies 4: SNOW - NO GO
#2
Fair enough. I've gone from touring tires (Coopers) to Proxes4. I don't think they are great in the snow but they hold their own against other all-season ultra high-performance. I've never had the Falkens but I think the 4s have excellent dry/wet performance for all-seasons.

I just had Proxes 4 installed on Saturday and yesterday we got about 18 inches of the white crap. Granted I spent all day yesterday driving my wife's 4 wheel drive Yukon but this morning I was shocked at how bad the Max was in the snow. My previous vehicle was an AWD SUV for the last year and half so my expectations were a little different. I havent had the Max long enough to drive any other tires on it. It came with Hankook (kept them for a week) and the Proxes 4 crush those with the 100+ mile I put on it Saturday.

Also just got Proxes 4s installed on Friday for my trip from Philly to around Queens, NY for the weekend. I got them in 225/50/16 so I was moderately worried about the snow because of the width, but I thought they were fine in the snow.
The only thing that was a problem was getting my car out of the parking spot yesterday morning. I guess that aggressive tread pattern gives up some bite in the snow.
Can anyone else compare these to the Ziex ZE-512 for snow traction?

yea i can. I really didn't see a difference in the tires. I personally think that the toyo was a better tire. Granted we didn't get much snow, and if we do see snow, it might only be for 2 days max. I'd still go for the toyo's over the falkens. But would def get the contintental, those things are just plain nasty all around....

The ContiExtremeContact? Yeah, good tire. I had it in 205/65/15 on my winter set of wheels. My front ones bubbled, though... didn't really enjoy that too much. I had to replace them with Bridgestone Potenza G009s, which was a big mistake.
I might get another set of those Contis for my winter wheels if these Proxes 4s don't last until next winter with enough tread depth. The Contis are definitely better in snow, and feel a little more stable. But if I had to pick one, it'd have to be the Proxes 4. It's still decent in snow but way better than the Conti on dry and wet roads, and it's quieter and cheaper to boot.
