The Best tires

I have a 2003 maxima se with stock tires and rims , and they suck. I want some quite, comfortable tires, something very smooth. Then handleing comes in effect.
I will keep the stock rims with my new tires.

What are the best tires out there.

1 comfortable ride then Handling.
Im in NY there are alot of bumps.

I recently purchased a set of Kumho Ecsta ASX (All Season Extreme) tires from Discount tire and I am very happy with them. They are quiet at high speeds and handle extremely well. I dropped $450.00 installed, but I went to a 235 width. I just had them rotated for the first time and they seem to be wearing very well. I would definitely buy them again.

Anything was better than the stock Potenzas.

I am also in the process of looking for new tires. Nitto 450 suck something awful and talk about loud. Sure they grip like glue but they suck in the snow and make the car handle wierd. I am leaning toward Toyo Proxes TPT or Avon Tech M/S. People complain about the stock tires but I'd take those over 450 extremes anyday.

I also have an '03 Max SE, and I bought new Turanza LS-Vs last week.

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. They flat-spot even worse than the Potenzas, although it's possible that Belle Tire didn't balance one or more of them properly. I get a slight vibration at-speed that I didn't have with the Potenzas.

I'm also having an issue with finding the correct air pressure. I tried the 32 psi recommended (and worked very well for me) with the Potenzas and the flat spotting was so bad it was almost comical (WHUMP WHUMP WHUMP WHUMP), and the car was very ponderous. Belle started me at 40 psi, but that was way too high for those tires - it was like my tires were full of concrete and helium. I'm at 35 psi currently, and I'll find out tomorrow morning if it's the "right" pressure.

So, I'm bringing the car back on Monday to have them re-balance the tires. Thank God for Bridgestone's 30 day money back guarantee, because "as is" is not acceptable. The Potenzas weren't amazing tires, but I was pretty happy with them for the most part. Belle also sells Toyo Proxes, maybe I'll try them if the Turanzas don't work out.

I had some installed last month. They are somewhat noisy compared to the OEM tires I replaced. I had good service from the Potenzas for 50K miles. I haven't driven in the rain with them yet.

i was also recommended the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, and the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 (235/45/17). From what ive heard they are probably one of the best all around tires but they are pretty pricey i was quoted about 280$ CAD a tire.

I recently bought a set of Cooper Zeon Sport A/S for my 01 max and love them. For the price of about $70 bucks a tire they are a great deal. I payed half that price about $35/tire since a buddy of mine works for Cooper and he gets four sets of tires each year to buy. He was nice enough to purchase them for me at half price. Even though I got at half price, I have had several other vehicles with Coopers and they are a good bang for the buck!!!!! My 2 cents....

the michelin Pilot sports are awsomr but very expensive. I would, and did, go with the toyo proxes 4 for much less money. You could also look at the Avon tech which are a little cheaper than the toyo proxes but also heavier.

I've only heard good things about avons, not to mention they are #1 rated all season performance tire above michelin and pirelli. I'm going to get them in 245/40/18 within the next few weeks and i will give you a personal experience.

I have had the LS-Vs on my max for about 6 months and love them. I have no vibration and only notice the cold spots if the outside temp is below 40. Even so, the spotting goes away after a mile or so. I would highly recommend them.

In response to max4life, again I would recommend the LS-Vs. Over the past 2 years, I have had the stock Turanza EL-42s which I would also recommend as well as Falken 512s(which I didn't like). The LS-Vs and EL-42s are essentially the same tire with different tread patterns. Both of the Turanzas will offer you comfort and performance.

But anyway, isn't this post in the wrong forum?? Try looking under the Tires and Wheels Forum. I know that you will find a wealth of info there.

I have Bridgestone Turanza LS, not too bad. I think the potenza's grip a little better. But did a lot better in snow.

"the best" implies many things. You'd have to be more specific.

The best handling tire means that you will have shoddy tread life. The average miles for Michelin Pilot Sports are around 12-15k miles. Quite expensive depending on how often you drive.

The best handling tire also means that they are usually high-performance summer only tires. Wet handling may be compromised and definitely no snow applications.

wow didnt know that, I hope the toyo proxe 4's have better tread life than that.

Just to follow up on this post, it does appear that 35 psi is the "correct" pressure for Turanza LS-Vs on an '03 Max SE. It was pretty smooth today, and was actually enjoyable. It masked a lot of bumps and crashing that the Potenzas let on through to the cabin.

just purchased a set of Nexan N7000 225/45 ZR 17 for my 2000 Maxima SE.
entire set with mounting and balancing was under $300 and they ride and handle great. with all of the curves in the ozarks, these make for a fun drive.
if you haven't looked at these yet, check them out, as i am very impressed with the quality for the price.

I had the Avon Tech M550's also. They were a good tire for the money but not anywhere near the PS2's in ride comfort or handling.

Has anyone noticed that the original poster lives in the Northeast? The Pilot Sport PS2 and S-03 Pole Position would get him killed in the winter.

For him, the "best tire" overall WITHOUT considering price is definitely the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.

If price is somewhat a factor, it's the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS or Yokohama Advan S.4.

If price is a big factor, or if snow traction is a primary concern, it's the Toyo Proxes 4 or Continental ContiExtremeContact.

Hmm...I recently picked the Falken FK-452 in 255/35/20 and I am loving them. Of course they are a summer tire, but they are definately the best value for the money if you are looking for a great summer tire.
