235/40/18 all season stiff sidewall?

whats up

I'm looking for a 235/40/18 all season tire.

I have been searching but most of the all seasons such as the toyo proxes 4 and the falken 512s have soft sidewalls. I am looking for an all season tire that has great grip and strong sidewalls.

Any recommendations and websites?

Pirelli PZero M&S

It's one of the very few all-season tires (if not the only one) that offers very good grip and stiff sidewall at the same time.

It's a very good tire but the sidewall is extremely soft. If you drive hard from time to time the thread will not last long either.

I emailed the tire rack this question and the told me the Kumho ASX and Michelen Pilots had stiff sidewalls for All Season tires.

extremely soft? um. no. Actually, it's about as stiff sidewalls as those on my Hankook Z212's, which are a DOT-legal autocross/summer tire.

Tread life is always a tradeoff....if you drive hard and use a high-performance grippy tire, you will not get as much life as driving like gramma with a "passenger car" tire with high wear ratings.

two thumbs up for the Proxes4...I'm on my 2nd set and will buy another when the time comes. Best combination of price, performance, and comfort out there, hands down.

btw, they are hard as hell to squeal even on the most aggressive highway exits....and trust me, I know how to push a tire to its limits.

yes, they do. The Pilots are a good tire too, but frankly I like the proxes better than the Pilots I had on a previous car....plus they're alot less expensive and not French.

Shoe polish gets scrubbed off of the sidewall when I inflate my proxes 4 to 42 - 43 psi. Do you think this is normal for a performance oriented tire? (I'm running stock size, 225/50-17)

BTW, are the tires you are comparing the same size? IIRC, you are running proxes 4 on 18" rims...

He asked about 235/40/18.....that is what I'm using on my 18's. If he was asking about 17's, I would have gone more toward the Pilots, since they do have a stiffer sidewall, which is needed with a higher profile from the rim. On the 18's though, the Proxes IIRC are a higher load rating and shorter sidewall, so they don't roll over. I run 35lbs or so and drive like a madman, with no sidewall roll...
