Will a 215/50/17 tire work on stock 5th Gen SE 17" rims?

The reason I am asking is because I have a set of 215/50/17 tires in the basement, and I have a spare set of 17" SE rims in the basement. I have a buddy who just bought a 2000 SE with the 16" rims, and I was going to try to hook him up, IF the rims and tires will work well together. He plans on lowering, so wheelgap should not be an issue.

Specs:

Stock Bridgestone Potenza RE92 in 225/50/17: Tread width 6.7" Overall Diameter 25.9"

Other tires in a 215/50/17: Tread width varies, and Overall diameter seems to be 25.5" (a few were 25.4").

I could not find actual specs on the Falkens that I have, so I went on Tirerack and looked around.

So can he run the 215/50/17s on the OEM 17s?

yes, they'll work. IIRC the FSM lists it as a usable size...

The least of your worries is getting the right bolt pattern. No, you can't fit 17" tire into 15" wheel. You'll probably want 215/60/15 or something similar. Tell us your wheels' width and we can help you pick the right tire size.
