anyone here manage to repair/refinished polished lips?

As so many people over the last few years have purchased wheels with polished lips, I am sure many out there have been curbed. Has anyone here been able to successfully repair these polished lips at home without having to take it to a pro? Id like to refinish some of my wheels.

Thanks

I have not fixed curb rash but when i got my wheels one of the tires were mounted backward, so I had a local tire place flip it around and they damaged my wheel. scratched it all the hell, so I have to sand it down and repolish it. Got pictures of the damage and i will tell you the steps to do.

Did they damage the lip too? Do you mind posting the pics and a little how-to on how to fix it?

Thanks!

they scratched the lip up bad. I have no pics but what you do is start sanding with 600 grit wet sandpaper make sure to keep the paper wet. Sand the til all the scratches and curb marks are gone, then go up to 800 grit, then to 1000, then to 2000. after that use mothers polish and buff it all out woith a soft cloth.

i hear horror stories like that all the time. i would not stand for that. can't you get them to replace it at all? or at least ask them before hand if they can mount without damaging the wheel. if they say no, i would find another shop. i think a lot of it has to do with their equipment. some machines have a plastic piece, versus metal. find one that uses the plastic.
