toyo proxes 4 tires

anyone know anything about these tires. im gonna be getting the size 245/35/20. ive heard mostly good things about them but i dont personally know all that much about tires. some dude was telling me that they are soft and wear fast. if anyone could recommend any other tires of this size that would be a better idea that is roughly the same price as these than please tell. i can purchase these tires for around $145 per tire

They don't wear too fast, there are a lot of people on here who have 'em, they're a damn good tire for the price, and not even too bad in the snow either (for an UHPAS).

They are good set of tires. Tread life could be better though.

Toyo Proxes 4s are definitely soft and short-lived...

...if what you're used to is the mass-marketed crap aimed at people who think tire life and noise are the only important criteria for a tire.

If you like traction and grip, you will probably be very satisified with the tread life of the Proxes 4s given how well they perform.

Car aligned right and proper inflation? The tires shouldn't wear out that fast...

I get about 20k out of each set I've used. But they perform great in all weather and temperatures, and have good ride - plus, they're pretty inexpensive in the 235/40/18 size I use, so I don't mind if they wear out fairly quick....i do drive like a madman.

Only thing is they do tend to get very loud when they get below 50% tread....but that's what you get with a performance tire...

I got about 28000 miles on my first set before the belts on one tire started to separate and I had to replace them. I don't really drive too hard - just the occasional corner/on-ramp here and there - not too crazy.

I think they are great tires and I have had nothing but good experiences with them until about 25000 miles or so, when they became somewhat dangerous in light snow (whereas before they had done quite well, at least compared to my OEM Bridgestones). Otherwise, they still performed great in dry/wet.

When I originally went to get the Proxes replaced, I was told that they were on national backorder, and that my tire store couldn't get them anywhere. So instead I got a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE 960 AS. After three and a half weeks I was not satisfied with the change. I did some more research and went back in and told them that I could find the Proxes online and had the RE 960's replaced with the Toyos (see the all season tire thread for more info on this).

I have about 10K on mine, thinking ill have about 15k out of them when its all said and done. They are good tires for the money for sure with tons of grip, but next time I'm trying Falken 512s for kicks, hopefully i wont regret the switch...

you will most definitely regret the switch. Having had 2 sets of 512s before 2 sets of Proxes4, I can say that the Proxes OWN the 512s in pretty much every category. They handle better, grip better dry (about the same wet), run quieter, last longer, and have stiffer sidewalls.

The 512s were decent, but the Proxes4 are far superior.
