I was reading some reviews on tirerack and someone said to get them mounted at Walmart.

Wow, those are some nice prices! I've been going to NTB or Conrads everytime and paying much much more. I just ordered some tires, so I think I'll try Walmart for the mounting/balance.

 

you're just asking for scratches. (and you just got new rims too, didn't you?) have more respect for your setup than that! it's worth a few extra pennies to get it done right and clean. then find a good place to get an alignment.

i don't think they will care if you have a '90 grand am with steelies or your nice new rims with low pros. they just throw em on there quick and get paid.

Can't you just tell the guy, "please be careful of my rims and dont scratch them?" and if they do, you have a good reason to bi+ch at them

 

Why risk it? If the machine is not made for low-profile tires then it will most likely scratch your stuff up.

 

I guess so...Well I vote for Americas Tire/Discount Tires lifetime programs...they always work with custom wheels with low profiles...so these guys know how to handle our wheels with care

 

I don't really see why Wallmart MUST be a bad idea. Don't they sell and install low profile tires as well? But then again, America's Tires / Discount Tires aren't that much more expensive for the installation. I've used America's Tires' Lifetime Warranty. I thought it was a good idea until I needed to use it. When I made the claim, they said I would have to buy a new warranty for the replacement tire. BS

 

Well the local walmart near me sells mostly high profile tires...I never saw any in the 40 series range...they were all 50 and above...and most of them were 15 or 16 inchers...I think only a few were 17

Not necessarily, some shops are better than others. The last AT/DT i went to for mounting new tires on rims did a horrible job on my last set of wheels. The other AT/DT i went to prior to this was the same way. The first shop placed scratches on the rims, the second shop used some weirdo socke that scratched up the lug area.

 

I wouldnt.. I have to admit, I buy some things there but nothing for my ride let alone tires (wouldnt let them touch)..I go to discount tire and I get the warranty too...and I pay for the other warranty for the new tire if one flattens or is unfixable (who wants to pay full price for another tire, when you can pay 15 bucks for the warranty?)

 

I've went to walmart to get tires mounted on my old Saturn SL2 and minivan ($350 with tires AND mounting). They do a decent job and the price couldn't be beat.

I've never taken the maxima to get the tires mounted there, not a risk I'm willing to take since the "technicians" seem to be...aloof.

 

take it from me, since i worked there in college, DO NOT GET YOUR TIRES MOUNTED AT WALMART! unless you dont care about them! their machines SUCK! its not the "tech's" fault, its wal-mart since they are cheap. however...if the scratch(s) are bad enough and you B**** loud enough they will replace it... seen it happen.

I had mine mounted at Wally World. I would recommend getting them balanced somewhere else though. They messed my balance up miserably.

 

I actually asked them about mounting and B&R... I had them do it all the time on my 94 Camry with 14" alloys, never had a problem. I let them touch the Max to balance the 16's, but they're not touching the G35 18's.... When I get new tires this summer, I'll be letting Firestone mount them with lifetime B&R.

 

I wouldn't give Walmart my money for anything. Their business practices are hurting A LOT of people.

 

00maxSE usually if you compare shop you'll be able to get the price you desire. Just get a quote from Wal-mart and take it to another shop they'll usually meet or beat it. (I work for Tire Kingdom so i know)

 

Walmarts are typically mad-houses anyway. it's totally worth the $1 I'd save on laundry detergent just to not have to fight the middle-aged redneck woman for the space in the isle just to GET to what you want. the ones in the Cincinnati area seem like the best. they just opened a SUPER WALMART in Evendale right off 75. that place is scary large. I think I'd only get motor oil there though. Belle Tire, Tire Discounters, or Discount Tire are about the only places I'll pull my car into for wheel-related stuff.

 

I would have to agree with that. They are shutting down a lot of smaller stores, but it works for them obviously. As cruel as it is, it won't change and people love walmart.

 

The cashiers are so damn slow and as the line grows they go slower.

Diffrent locations, will have different results. But if it sounds to good to be true, then it probably is. Rims and tires are a pretty important thing, and paying more money to get it done by a trustworthy person will be worth it in the long run.

 

I agree with the guy about me. Personally I wouldn't trust Walmart with anything I care about, but my buddies ricer mobile I recommended Walmart because of cheapness.

 

I know this is late in the game but this is what you should know about Wal Mart. Before I sold my 97 SE I took it to Wal Mart to get my Tire Rack ordered tires mounted on my 17in 350Z rims. I told the guy to be extra careful and he was. The kick in the n**s came when the manager looked up my car and saw that the 97 originally came with 16's. He politely and over and over again refused to let his guy put my wheels back on the car. Some liability bs he claimed, I actually had to jack up my car and mount my own wheels, (talk about liability). When it came time to pay I refused to pay full price because I had to put them back on the car, the manager tried to force the issue, but when I stood my ground, he thought better of it and took half price. DO NOT USE WAL-MART, you WILL regret it.

 

Yup they totally fooked up two of my wheels when mounting because they don't care.

I paid for the lifetime balancing and now each time I go in to get balanced....I return and hour later to pick up my receipt that states "customer declined"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I pitch a B1tch and tell them I have wheel vibration and get told it is alignment or warped rotors or some other BS...I took it to firestone for balancing and viola NO MORE VIBRATION.

Wall mart hires students (no experience), mental retards and/or people with very low mental capacity.

my walmart has a new mounting machine that handles low-pros,, they got this new machine because they started selling low-profile tires. and i personally know 2 of the girls that work in there..(yes, i said girls, but they do a kick *** job) and i would trust my car with them...
that is why it really varies more on the employees and equipment (employees more than anything else of course..), than on the actual place itself.

I was gonna try walmart, but just couldn't bring myself to do it. Tire rack has recommend installers so I used Tire Kingdom and they did it pretty cheap. 46.00 out the door.....

 

Stay away unless you know the people doing the work. They scratched up one of the rims on my Mustang bad and they decided they couldn't mount tires that wide. Luckily they agreed to pay for the damage. I just had them buy a new tire since I needed a set for the back anyway. The tire was about $135.
