Looking for new tire....
Looking for new tire....
I am looking for a new set of tires that are gonna last atleast 30K and are like W rated. I want something with a stiff sidewall for when I take turns fast. I currently have Yoko ES100. They handled great and all but they only last like 15K I need something that performs like them but will last twice as long.
Consider yourself lucky--my last set of tires lasted about 5k.
Not sure what you're going to get that will last 30k with some hard driving... I thought ES100s had a hard enough compound to last 20-25k or so.

I bought the tires back in Oct and now they are worn out. I just cant spend $500 plus mounting etc like every 6 months. I do more driving now so they will need replaced more often. 20-25K would be impossible. Im at 12K now and they are had it. 15K max I would say. They were amazing tires but the wear is low.
I was looking at the Kuhmo ASX(30K warranty) but my friend just got them put on today and he said he felt as if they have soft sidewalls. But since he just got them he cant say for sure. I also looked at the Potenza RE960AS Pole Position but didnt like the price tag of $640 even though they come with a 40K warranty
If anyone has any suggestions Im open to anything.

Well I have been doing quite a bit of research on tirerack and well I decided all I want is a summer tire. No need for an all season as it rarely snows here.
Ive kinda narrowed it down to the General Exclaim UHP(highest rated on tirerack under high perf summer tire) or the Kuhmo Ecsta STP(ratings are all about the same as the es100s I currently have except the threadwear is rated 8 instead of 6.5).
Here is the link to the ratings if anyone wants to glance over it and give me their opinion. The generals are ranked #1 and the STPs #6 and the es100 #19.

Also how many miles do you all think I could squeeze out of those 2 tires?

Well i work for a company that owns some of Tire Rack. And honestly i think the Exclaims are not that great. I'm huge into the Falken 452's those tires handle well and last long. Khumo's they are good tires especially for the price but i feel they just are that a econ. tire. I wish you good luck in your choice. If you rotate and balance your tires every 3,000-5,000, align the car, and keep the proper air pressure in the tires you'll get a good life out of them. Just a FYI 5lbs too little of air will take away 25% of the life. again good luck.

Would you say these have a stiff sidewall? Also what type of mileage are you getting out of a set of these?
How long tires last has as much to do with alignment and driving style as it does as the compound. I burned a little rubber every once in awhile and my front RS2s lasted 4k miles. IIRC d00df00d had a set of fk452s on the rear of his E36 M3 that lasted about 3k miles.
And also.... ES100s aren't really good tires in general. They're okay.

Driving style makes a huge difference you are correct. I have a set of 452's on a customers Subaru STI ( pushing rougly 350-400hp ) The car currenly has 15K in miles since the install and tires still look decent. Still have life to go and there is a little camber wear but thats because he races and sets his car up that way. (note he does drag race and auto-x). The ES100 are a good wearing tire, the wear just as well as Michelin Pilot Sport A/S but they are loud. They were not built to be quiet (Yokohama is currently making a new tire to replace the es100) but they wear great and drive well.
Alright thanks for the help guys. I think I am gonna go with the Kuhmo SPT unless I get a better option?
Im gonna post up some pics of my tires and how they are worn etc to see what kind of camber adjustment I need based on looking at my tires. I currently have -.5 camber but the tires are wearing on the edges so I need more neg camber.
