Toyo Proxes 4 sidewalls

A week or two ago, I had the Toyo's installed. But every time I look at them, they look underinflated. So I take my tire pressure gauge and sure enough, they're at 33psi.

I had read they had soft sidewalls... but is this normal/safe? My old ContiExtremeContacts was said to have soft sidewalls too, but they never looked the Toyo's do at 33psi. Also, how much psi is it good to have for these tires? I had read somewhere that someone placed 40psi and it caused a blowout (even though the tires are rated for 50psi...) These are for stock 5spokes SE wheels.

Aside from the underinflated look, they ride nice fine though. Better than the continentals so far...

I have been running my 225/45/17s with 36-37 PSI for over a year with no problems, seems to be the sweet spot

I am sure its safe to run them at 40 psi if the tire has a max pressure of 51. This is the main reason I stayed away from the proxes. The marshmellow side walls which causes poor steering response and funny handling. My nitto 450 had very soft sidewalls and I had them at 40 psi with no problems. Got potenza 960a/s and have them at 34 psi f/r and they are stiff as hell....

Thanks for the replies. I guess it's time to increase the psi on these tires. Try out around 37psi or so. We had some heavy downpour over here a few days ago, it handled the rain just fine... they feel more comfortable than the old Conti's...
