Wheels width
Wheels width
I have 350z rims with 235/45/17 Falken 912's. Very good tires BTW and too good for 17". Before I put on the new tires I had 235/45/17 tires on the front and 235/50/17 on the back. Since I had a bigger profile on the rear the wheels looked wider on the rear since the tires bulged out more which looked really good especially since I have a fat looking rear end because of the body kit. Now when I look at my cars rear
it's not soo "thick" anymore and I want wider rims.
I know it's been discussed to death but I want to get some wider 18" rims. The car has a slight drop but I don't know how much. How much wider can I go without rubbing? Does anyone have wider/bigger rims and tires that they want to trade for mine?

The thing is though that I just don't understand offset. If I do buy 18" rims with a width of 9 it will probably rub?
Do you have any pics of rear end of your car showing how wide the tires look?

lol 9.. jezze i never heard of 9 offset on a maxima
mine are 38 offset and my tires are 9.5 inches wide
its dark outside so i wont be able to get a good pic, i could get one in the morning though

After the drop. I know it doesn't look dropped but the bumper is a beer can away from the ground. It's dropped on stock suspension since the previous owner was an idiot. It will probably blow if I go any lower.

offset explained...
the dimension between the centerline of the wheel (halfway between
the tire bead seats), and the mounting surface. More positive offset tucks the
wheel closer to the car. Less pushes the wheel further away.

Check that link for further and more in depth information.
Does that help?

Would 18" rims with a width of 9" rub with a 40mm offset? If rims have a lower offset than 35mm would that have less chance of rubbing?
Does Nissan make any 18" rims with a 9" width?
I appreciate it.
A 9" +35 will fit fine in the rear, but stick out about 5mm in the front. A 9" +40 will fit fine in the rear, but may hit the strut in the front I have not test fitted a 9" +40.
I actually don't get it anymore.
235/45/17 comes out to 25.3x9.3/17. So my tires are 9.3" in width???? 245/40/18 is also not wide enough. Comes out to 25.7x9.6/18 so that's not a big difference.
What do I have to do to the car to fit 255/40/18?

You can't go by wheel widths, wheels are measured beed to beed not edge to edge. So a 9 inch wheel is actually more like 9.5-10 inches...If you put a 9 inch tire on a 9 inch wheel, it will be a little stretched....
Depending on the tire there is a range of sizes you can run on a wheel. You can run tires from 235 up to 275 on a 9" wheel (per Yokohama specs). Matching the tire and wheel will give you the best performance from a tire. I would normally run a 255/40 on my 9" wheels, but was testing a 275 setup for my Z. I liked the 275 setup enough to buy a set on 17x10s so my new track setup for the Z32 is 17x10s with 275/40s.
BTW my track tires were 11.1" section width and 10.3" tread width, section and tread width vary from brand too brand (Kumho specs 9"-11" wheels for a 275/40).
I just happen to have the 9s on the Maxima now, they currently have 245/40s on them. Here's a shot on the Z

You can see the diff from the 275s too the 245s

Fronts and rears would be pulled about 20mm, fronts cambered in 2 degrees...255/40s all around...
But if I can't find the suspension I want, then it will be 17 x 9.5 +38 with possibly 275/40s all around...
If you want to be a serious balla you can get ksports and try and fit Konis in them...
I was actually thinking about doing that! Using Koni inserts and something like eibach springs...or even my current tokico springs...
For now though I am going to be doing a LOT of research, see if I can convert my suspension to something with a TON of aftermarket support, Mainly the S-chassis (s14). S13s have been done on a Y33, it may be possible...
Progress, Boss Chen, JIC... all decent/"OK" coilovers. You will not notice the difference between them and some freakin' Motons unless you brace the crap out of your chassis. Worry about the chassis before doing anything retarded crazy with the suspension.
Eibachs or GCs and and shortened Konis--where it's at. I would almost want to revalve the Konis stiffer and get some stiffer GCs, but Eibachs and yellows give an appropriate balance between ride and responsiveness (given it's a Maxima) out of the box, provided you shorten the Konis and cut the bump stops.
If you give the A32 a double-wishbone rear suspension I will buy a plane ticket to wherever you are and buy you a beer.

I would look for hardcore Pulsar GTi-R or Sentra parts to adapt if you are not happy with the options availible although in my opinion and experience it's the chassis and actual suspension design of our platform that becomes the limiting factor.

I will probably pull my fenders slightly though, we will see...
