First test Of Toyo Proxes In deep snow

Since I've been in miami the past 4 years I havent really had a chance to try the toyos in deep snow.. well as some of you may know, southern New England is gettin drilled with almost a foot of snow and its falling at a pace of 1-3in an hour.

In short.. they are a little dissapointing. I havent even ventured outside of my appartment complex parking lot and I can say they are ok.. but anything more than about 3-4 in of snow and any incline what so ever and its all over.

So although they are all season tires.. times like now... dont count on them.

Might be better to post in the Wheel/Tire forum. Just a thought. All-season tires aren't really all season

Plenty... In terms of wear I am pleasantly surprised. I have about 40k on them and at this rate I could easily get another 20k out of them. The only real wear I've seen is on the corners of the tires from me attacking the curvy roads.

So you have like 30% life remaining in them... they probably are not all that great in the rain or snow compared to what they were new.

The Falken Ziex 912 are garbage. They won't even stick in the rain, what makes you say they'll stick in the snow.

I slid 2 times in one day making turns at moderate to slow speeds.

On the flip side.. we ended up moving over 100 car today in over a foot of snow, and the g35X's plowed right through it like it wasnt even there. Very impressive.

THe G coupes... not so much, but we all knew that

Yeah my freind has proxes 4 on his altima, there alright but nothing spectacular, snows are WAYY better obviously. The G35X are pretty damn good in the snow, although they do tend to plow abit, but the extra 2 wheels really make a difference. I remember one time back in my lot boy days they made me put gas in a 350z with RE040's that had maybe 40% tread left, i had to get 6 people to push me out of the spot, once they stopped pushing the car just rolled to a stop and got stuck again.

I've used a number of performance all-season tires in snow. None qualified as "good" but most were "ok"

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S - the best A/S in snow, but stil not too good.
Toyo Proxes4 - good in wet slushy conditions, not good in snow/ice
Falken 512's - about the same as the Proxes4
Avon Tech 550s - actually, not bad in snow. Close to the pilots, but 1/3 the price. We have these on my wife's car.

That said, no prformance A/S tires are going to be all that great in snow.

I went to a dedicated, V-rated winter tire (Blizzak LM-22) 2 years ago and I would NEVER go back to running an A/S in the winter again. The LM-22's are as good as the Toyos in most dry conditions too (though they wear much faster and are VERY expensive), but they completely dominate in the snow/ice....

I agree, no ONE all season tire will compare to a snow tire. I'm currently running Falken Z 912s on my altima and they have been great in rain and deep snow...I've only swerved once on them and thats because the road was covered in ice.

Yokohamas

These Japanese tires are awesome. Pretty good in the snow ( I do have lots of tread left.) They are Avid 4's I think. I bought american tires once tryning to save a buck about 2 weeks later I had pull with my car. The tire place said there is something wrong with your tires. I said yeah they're American! Yokohamas for life!
