Sticky Performance Tires

I want to run 245/40/18 on the murano rims, or possibly 235s if i have to settle for that width. But i have another car to drive around so how many miles i get out of them isnt too important but i will probally put about 3-5k miles on the max. Whats a good set of tires that will grip. The 3.5 has too much bottom end and 1st and 2nd gear is pretty much useless with the tires i have now. I will run the car on the 1/4 mile a few times like 2 or 3 times maybe. Just looking for opinions on what kinda tires are out there. Try keeping the tires under $200 a piece.

Thanks

-Tom

Just two tires that i found that id be looking at getting.

Hankook RS2 (awesome $ wise, on par with RT615)
Kumho MX (kind of dated but gets the job done)

These focus solely on performance per dollar. If you want less road noise etc then you should go elsewhere.

The RS2, RT615 and MX should all yield similar mileage. I got about 8000 miles out of my RS2s, but my alignment was horrific (2 degrees of camber and a ton of toe out) and I drove the **** out of them. I can see someone getting close to 15000 miles out of them, however they will lose their bite before that as will the other tires.

If I were you I would find something wider (wheel wise) and go with 255s on a 9 inch wheel...or if you are daring, you can squeeze 275s though you would have to pull the fenders a bit...

Well i dont want too wide. I already have problems with rocks getting kicked up on my sideskirts like under the door. If there was a way to make almost a widebody for the max id think about it more but the most id probally go is 8 or 8.5 inches.

I wish i could afford them but too expensive in the long run.

Tonight i tried starting the car from 2nd and it spins from a 1500 launch and then grips and then squeels away after 4500, but my tires are alright and they are only 225s bc i got them for free.

+1 for the Kumho MX's. I have 245x40x18 on my summer rims. Sticky as hell and excellent in the wet.

Well you can probably squeeze 255s on an 8.5 though they would bulge a bit, I would probably just go with 245 on an 8.5...

If you can afford it, look into Enkei RPF1s, they are light as hell and fairly cheap (200ish+)...

I have the RS2's, there grippy as HELL in the dry especially once they get warm My biggest gripe is the wet traction isnt the best, still better then the RT615, but the rt615's suck in the wet. If the sidewalls were a little more stiffer it would be an excellent tire for the money. It still is an excellent tire for the money, my freind had MX's on before i convinced him to get RS2's over FK452's and he said the RS2's are WAYYYY better then his MX's.

Falken Azenis Rt615: come in 235 ($128) and 245 ($141)

Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212 235 only ($154)

Hankook Ventus Sport K104 235 ($128) and 245 ($135)

Nitto NT 555 Extreme Performance 235 ($121) and 245 ($128)

These are some prices that i found from either discounttiredirect or edge racing. They are for the sizes 235/40/18 or 245/40/18.

I couldnt find the Rs2s in 245 so it would be the better deal to go with the rt615s right? Since then it would be a wider tire and $13 cheaper per tire. Now i know tires arent something to go cheaper on but MorpheusZero said that the 615s and the rs2 are on par with eachother its ok to go for the wider size and save some money right?

It all depends on what your end goals are. the RT-615 is one of the most popular street type autocross tires. very grippy, but they don't last long.. long enough for some people to drive on daily tho. they also have very stiff sidewalls, so they're not designed for drag use... they're designed to corner.

the NT555 is designed more around a drag tire and will have a bit better launch than the 615 because of the softer sidewalls. I'd recommend the NT555 if you're into drag and the 615 if you're looking for cornering performance.

Can't say anything from experience on the kooks tho... lots of autocross friends have used them and are happy with them (they bought 2 sets of them after having a set of RT-615, but I think it was a size availability issue- the RT-615 was too tall and the RS2 had a better diameter for his car).
anyway, I'd look at the NT555 if you want a drag tire and the RT-615 if you want a cornering tire.

You can do a different vehicle searchon tirerack.com to see pricing of different sizes.
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-d3
are perenial favorites of many guys that run One Lap of America. They offer superb dry traction and great wet traction
for 235s you are looking at $149/pc
Michelin Pilot Sport P2
a great tire thats been on the winning porsche turbo (500+whp) for One Lap.
Pricier at $198/pc, but an excellent tire
Pirelli P Zero Nero
I ran these for a year, good tire, not my favorite. Didn't hold up as well as I wanted for auto-x, but a good street tire. $155/pc

Yokohoma Advans
Great dry tire, ok in the rain. These were my stock tires, I got about 5k mi out of them
BFG Traction T/A KDW
the tire I run now. Dry traction is incredible. High level of grip with progressive break away. Good wet traction. For a high tread compound the grip very very well.
$149/pc

Thanks for the info really helps out alot. I think i would rather have a gripper straight line tire then an autoX tire. Ive never done autoX (want to but just never have) and mostly if im going to the track its the drag strip. So if the NT555s will get me off the line better then i believe that would be the better choice for me.

Neither of these tires is anywhere near as sticky as what's being talked about.

The Proxes 4 is an all-season tire BTW...

...lol...riiiiight but the point is that the Z has plenty enough power to lose the backend if you want to chief.

The Nexens are good tires...just my recommendation.

ok a stock z doesnt run low 13s. My car ran 13.3 and soon it will be in the 12s. So im pretty sure that i know thoes cars are still pretty slow. The nexens were great tires on my old stock car but not this one. I need a sticker tire then that.

thanks man sorry to flip out but the nexens really just arent a sticky enough tire. I probally wont be getting 12s on street tires as the 13.3 was on slicks.
