New Wheels on their way

I just ordered some XXR 521 18's. Its a wheel thats new for this year. fronts are 18X5 and rears are 18X10. http://www.nlmotoring.com/XXR-521-Wh...p/52177082.htm Anyway, the front is a +30 offset which is the same as the G 18s I have. The rear is +25 offset and I was wondering what tire should I run even with rolling the rear fenders. is 225/40 good enough? the lips are 3 inches btw

Holy stretch.... 225 (8.9") tires on 10" (25.4mm) wheels.

Why not run the 8.5" wheels all around with 245/40/18 or 255/40/18s?

245 40 is too big and would make the car sit higher up front and i kinda want the semi stretch look. but the rear is the one with the 3 inch lip according to a G35c that has them after a little more googling into forums. i found on tyrestretch.com that its okay for an 18 wheel. if its not okay in person then i'll run a 235 but i want to stretch. (no stretch war debates)

How do you suppose? 245/40/18 has a smaller OD than the stock 225/50/17s.

I'm glad you want to stretch the tires, and like the appearance, but realize you could fit larger (better) tires under car.

BTW, many of the fitments shown on tyrestretch.com are far from kosher; for example:

Good luck.

the circumferance of 225/40 i have now is 2 inches lower than 245/40, just keeping the lower stance. good scenario, my friend and I have 5th/5.5 gens. he has eibachs and i have progress (2nd lowest drop way over eibach) we both had 20s and he had 225/30/20 and i had 245/35/20. he sat waaay lower than me, all because of the tire. my drop served no purpose cuz the car stood up with a circumference of 84 to his 76 circ. so im just looking at it from a stance point of view. I'm working with the tires i have right now just so i could get the wheels at a good price Its just something i will have to play around with on tire calculator to get the stretch and look i want. i wanna do 215 up front and 235/35 rear. i just wasnt for sure about the 225 even though its been done. even at the time i might buy 2 rear tires if needed so we'll see

Uhh...you should check the math, or the tire sizes compared. Also, when you compared heights, it is a direct comparison of diameter/radius (even though it is also a circumference comparison, but less directly).

EDIT: better screen capture

All i know is that what im running now makes my car sit lower than a 245/40 or a 245/40/18, which is perfect. I done the math enough and i now could hit my exhaust backing into curbs. its lower trust me lol i been thru so many tires to know its not even funny. my whole concern was sizing on a 10 inch wheel not whats on there right now u get

Just to clarify, you cannot directly compare overall tire size using just the section width and aspect ratio. The wheel size adds directly into the OD.

For example, the 245/40 noted in my post above has a sidewall height of 3.85 inches which adds to the rim diameter to give the OD. So a 245/40/17 would have an OD of 24.7in (3.85*2+17), a 245/45/18 an OD of 25.7in, a 245/45/19 an OD of 26.7in, etc...

That is why for a target diameter the aspect ratio must decrease as either the tire width or wheel diameter is increased. The target diameter is usually stock as the speedometer is calibrated to it, and lower a vehicle with a decreased tire size causes other problems (primarily clearance).

Good luck.

Bad sizes. That front is going to be sunk in compared to the rear, especially on a 5th gen. 9j +25 and 10j +35 would have been a better match with two degrees of camber up front. As it sits now, the rear is going to be about 18mm (3/4 inch) further out compared to the front. Get a 15mm spacer for the front and be prepared to do some pulling to make them fit well.

In regards to tire sizing. The front will need a 215/35 while the rear should work with a 235/35. 225 is too much of a stretch IMO...

Is there any way you can post a close up of the "stepped lip" on the 18x8.5 wheel. I'm really interested in these for my wrx and I just want to make sure that it is indeed a "stepped lip". (I'm just worried cuz I saw that the 20x8.5 doesn't have the stepped lip when it's supposed to)
