So I had another tire failure today. ( woke up to a flat). it seems I dont have luck with tires. anyways. I'm looking into a new set of tires. I still have the factory set of RSA's on my car. Should I stick to the RSA's or are there better tires out there? less road noise? better handling...

I checked tire-easy.com and they had a large selection and i feel overwhelmed by it all.

im trying not to spend more than $150.00 on a tire...

whats the scoop on the cheapest one called Nankang....

 

I hear good things about the falken 912 (probably my next tire on my winter rims)

I have toyo proxes 4 on my summer rims and love them

Where do you live? do you need/want an all season tire?

 

DONT go back to RSA! I have Goodyear Eagle GT and I love them. Check out treadepot.com & tirerack.com for better prices.

falken 912 are summer tires badged as all season, i have them on right now and they are horrible when it smells of snow, and dismal on ice


DO NOT BUY FALKEN 912 IF YOU GET SNOW

EAGLE GT on the other hand are fantastic tires, but i dont know how well they are in snow cuz my car was totaled b4 i got the chance to try them

 

anyone used Hankook Ventus V4? i read good reviews. someone with a max said that it had a louder road noise that the stock RSA's

 

I was just wondering if you were in a warm climate where you could get away with something like a summer tire which would do better in rain than an all season and would handle better. Being in queens you are going to need all season tires unless you get a summer and winter set.

Tires are really subjective so its really hard to just tell you what tire you are really going to love. If i was you i would do some research on some tires in your budget and you can make a good decision based on what you find out from that

 

have your tire installer check the inside of your wheels. sometimes oxidation builds up on the rim, compromising the seal at the bead of the tire. it happens on my wheels EVERY WINTER. the only remedy is to remove the tire, grind down the oxidation, and remount. if this is the problem, youll be fine til it gets cold again. trust me, i go through this every year.

 

I just got a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires for $139 each for the 245/45 18 size ($606 for all four tires shipped to CO), which are an awesome all year round tire - quiet and great treadwear rating...got them from http://www.onlinetires.com/ they also have an offer for a free GPS if you buy 4 Continental tires atm...

You can goto tirerack.com which has got some good reviews of some tires, but it does take some shopping around imo...

I Have Nexen 7000 (245/45/18) they are all season and cheap, I payed $100 a piece and love them. I can't say what there are like in the Snow (live in FL) but for rain and dry they are great. Have about 20k on them and they are wearing great.

I just got Michelin Primacy's MXV's. Long tread life, quiet, all season.
Worked better in the snow (and overall) then the stock tires.

Had Continentals they sucked I wound up putting Michelin's Primacy's on the car and they are like riding on silk most of the road noise is gone and the tread-wear is higher they should last alot longer they were a little more pricey but it was worth every penny. Right after I picked the car up and drove it, it was like driving a brand new car what a difference.

 

I have had these on my stock 17" wheels and love them. Quiet, sticky and worked pretty well in the Philly snow storms we just had. I would recommend them to anyone.

 

You really should have a dedicated set of snow tires. You can't expect All-Seasons to suffice, from what I have heard.

We never get snow, so I never have to worry about it

In regards to the question, the 912s are a damn good all season tires as long as you're not looking for a ton of grip.

 

i hear good things about those, traction and temperature is graded A, and you cant go wrong with threadwear 420 , i regret not getting those. i picked up hankook ventus V12s, they are good as well, but threadwear is 280 -_-

 

Eagle RSA is an absolutely terrible tire. Atrocious.

 

I agree with the dedicated summer/winter tires. This year was the first I've had winter tires and I would not have been able to drive nearly as confidently when we got pounded if I did not have them. Pittsburgh got 20+ inches in about 24 hours, fourth worst storm on record, but it's not like I need to tell anyone from the east about that.

For increased handling and wet grip, summer tires are where it's at. And an all season tire does not stack up against a dedicated winter tire.
