noob question please help

so i wanted to buy 18s for my 98 max to replace the stock 16s? and i heard that if i put 18s on it will screw up my gauges because of the different diameters of the tires. is this true?

thanks

If you get the right size tires the speedometer shouldn't be off. I'm running 225/40's and it's fine.

as long as you use 235/40/18, it will not have any effect what-so-ever. 225 or 245's are only 1% off.

The wheels wont, it's the tire you wrap them in that will. I notice my winter tires and summer tires show a difference when passing those radar signs. It's almost about 4-5MPH.
