Just bought some used 2006 maxima SL wheels with 225/55/17 tires mounted for my 99 maxima gxe. Got the wheels balanced and then put them on yesterday. After putting them on there is now a significant side to side wobble in the steering wheel that starts at about 20 MPH and increases with speed. Went back today to where I got them balanced to have them checked again and was going to get them road forced balanced to see if there was a problem with the wheels and/or tires. Guy said that the problem is that the front wheels are not fitting over the hubs and thus are not sitting flush against the rotors. The inside of the wheel also has a beveled edge where it meets the hub. I was under the impression that all maxima wheels were interchangeable for the most part. He suggested about a 1/16" spacer. Should these wheels fit fine without a spacer or should one be needed? Would it be possible to grind the hub to make it slightly smaller in diameter? Any ideas?

I still don't know what's going on, but just curious, what size tires are you running on them?

Update...problem wasn't the wheels or tires at all. I replaced the front brakes last week and when I was replacing one of the wheel studs this week I noticed that it was the rotors that weren't sitting flush on the hub. Between the center hole of the rotor and the hub there was what looked almost like a weld, probably just compacted brake dust, rust, etc., that was preventing the rotor to sit flush. Used a dremel to sand it away and the wobble is gone now. Must not have been as noticeable with the 15" steelies, but became much more apparent with the larger/heavier wheels. Glad that's all it was anyways.
