Hoosier DOT or Nitto 555r will they fit? Drag racers chime in
I recently purchased some lightweight 17x7 inch wheels. I know they are a bit narrow but I'll have to deal with it. The Hoosiers DOT's seem to be as close as you can get to a full slick while still being somewhat streetable. They are available in 225/45/17. And I've been able to find them for $460 a set shipped. Now the Nitto 555r's narrowest 17 inch tire is 245/45/17. I know they can fit but will I have issues? Is the extra rubber going to make useful contact? Also they are $369 a set shipped.
My goal is to cut a 1.9-2.0 sixty foot. I've looked into full out slicks but the price and possible drivetrain issues have kept me away. Also I'm confused on sizing. Suggestions?

If your looking for the best 60 ft the Hoosiers are going to get you there more so than the Nitto's. Nitto's will last a little longer and have better traction in the rain. I have run them both on my old supercharged 93 LX and always cut a better time with The Hoosiers. Which ever you decide on, If it's Hoosiers do a John Force funny car burnout before your run to get em nice and sticky and the Nittos just a quick spin to clean them off. Hope this helps good luck. Ambient temp and track prep also play a roll in 60 footers

Thanks for the reply, after doing additional research the 555r's seem to have a bad rep. People are raving about the hoosiers and the mt et streets. I have the mt et streets and have had ok results. Consistent 1.8's on a rwd car. I also hear the hoosiers are lighter And more have a softer sidewall than the mt et streets.
