What is this on these chrome wheels??

Hey guys, do you know what this is on these wheels? I went to look at them, ad on craigslist said they had some "pitting". This is what I found when I got there.

It is a chalky substance... scraped off with the finger, but it looks like the chrome is coming up under them in some places.

The price is cheap enough (20x8.5, with passable tires), i think I can buy them for about $200. Tempted to have them blasted and powdercoated or something.

Any thoughts??!

Those things are toast. That pitting is really bad.

Might not be too bad to blast and powdercoat but I wouldn't put 20's on a 4th gen.

I'd really like to know what that stuff is. Is a oxidation? The owner said he stored them in his sched covered up for about a year. They were perfect, then when he took them out of the shed They looked
like that.

It's corrosion. I noticed the Wisconsin plate on your car, so i'm sure it's from road salts.

The chrome plating is going to have to be removed and your finish of choice applied to them, unless you want to polish out the aluminum underneath the chrome.
