Bent rim, repair or replace?

After having my wheels balanced one ended up being bent on the inside, so it was put on the right rear. I have a small but noticeable shimmy at highway speeds. Local places can straighten it for around $40 (I think with a hammer). I'm sure when I ask if it will still shake on the highway they will say no. Will it ride smooth with a quality repair or should I just buy another rim? Thanks.

The shop that balanced your wheels should be able to tell the severity of the bent. If it is really minor, try to fix it first.

Thanks for the reply, that's exactly what I did and the rim is fried.

Steelies, alloy, or aftermarket and how bent it is would influence the answer.
$40 isn't much if it fixes your problem, but I would get a guarantee on that work if the wheel isn't round. As I was once told, "you can balance an egg, but doesn't mean it will roll well."
