The 4th gen over 5th...Issues

I have a question. Last night I was out racing agents my boys 2002 Nissan maxima 6 speed with intake and exhaust. We would go from a 2nd gear rol and every time my car would jump out a little, but in high rpms of 2nd gear he would come back and get about half a car on me, and then threw 3-4-5th no one pulled anymore... Ive noticed this lately that I always seem to lose my races cuz of 2nd gear ... 1st gear was no issue cuz even when we went off the line i sat right next to him all in 1st. Could this be an intake issue? I have the straight pipe from RMV and a cone filter from pepboys ( not near as big as the stillen pop charger filter ). If we went from 3rd and up we would sit dead even, or who ever pulled was because the other person messed up... let me know what u think..U think i should put my stock intake back on? Cuz of all that talk that it shows better results then aftermarket?

PS we took them so high on the high way that my speedomiter hit 140 but my RPMS keeped going! I asked my friend what his speed was when we hit the brakes, and he said 155 and i was still at 5 and a half grand on the rpm gauge... now one cant complain about this

Well, get back to me. Thanks

Wow, I never knew the tach gave MPH readings...silly me I thought that was a speedometer. And I've never heard of an RPM guage...I usually just look at my TACH. Weird.

95_SE_5spd I fixed it.... happy ?

I wish I had a stock intake to play around with, cuz the thread the Dave B started has some interesting points on how stock is better then aftermarket.

Last night I raced a modded Sentra SE-R, and he ended up beating me. One thing on that race I really noticed was gearing; he was one gear ahead of me the entire time. Just after I shifted to 2nd he was in 3rd, and when I was in 3rd he was in 4th.

I not sure on 5th gens, but our gearing is relatively long. Since the 2k2 has 6 gears his gears 1-5 are probably shorter than ours, which could explain the jump while you're in 2nd gear.

yea i noticed that too while i raced my friends V spec but i ended up killing him.... but the gearing thing i think your on point.... but i dont see why if im in my strongest point witch is high RPMS he pulls...cuz then shouldent he be pulling in every othere gear if his car is flat out stronger?

The point is maybe your 2nd gear is long compared to his gear, whereas your 3rd is closer in ratio to his (3rd, 4th, whatever). Also without a VI he is going to kill you in the high rpms because he has a variable with considerably more horsepower to boot. To tell you the truth you should really be short shifting to stay in your powerband, not running the car all the way to redline.

Hate to break it to ya but there is no way you guys were goin 155 with a exhaust and intake unless you have a factory freak with an extra 100 horses or something

yeh stock it will hit 140-142 but it doesnt exactly fly right up to that speed either. To hit 155 in our cars would require alot of extra power espesially since there not the most areodynamic cars either, alot of forces come into play at those speeds, anyway for the 4th gen to hit that speed would require alot of space and probably at least an extra 50-75 horses at the wheels. So what mods do you have?

This is Florida...its flat with long long 4 lane roads I make no clam that I flew up to 150 like a bad out of hell, yes it did take quite some time. And there was plenty of road for it. Sorry for the misunderstanding
