97 Maxima - stall, idle, hesitation

Hello all,

My 97 Maxima (117K) was recently serviced for a p1447 code (wound up being charcoal canister) and a p0600. Dude found out the vehicle speed sensor cluster (?) connecting to ECU was bad, but would only cause speedometer to fail.

So, not I have a new problem (started happening before service) where the car will buck or hesitate while cruising on the highway, and stalls often when I am sitting at idle - at low speeds there is obvious hesitation in the transmission(?) shifting of gears. It feels like something isn't "catching"

Mecahnic cleaned TB and IACV lately, so I don't think those are the issue. I am thinking it could be MAF - any other thoughts?

has to be a MAF on its way out or a bad MAF.

rev the motor from the throttle cable under the hood, unplug maf while doing it, if nothing changes when you unplug, maf is your issue, try cleaning before replacing it, they can be expensive and jy mafs cab be hit or miss, especially if the vehicle you pull it from has heavy front end damage

Also use OEM maf only, the aftermarket ones have issues.

Great, thanks! Also, the Overdrive light (OD orange) flashes at times when I start the car - do you think this has anything to do with the drivability issues, or is it probably to do with the VSS cluster I mentioned in the first post?

the Overdrive light should be flashing when starting, It will stay on if overdrive is on or stay off if overdrive is off. completely normal.

Okay, folks. I re-soldered the three electrical contacts on the MAF circuit board to the piece that connects to the wiring harness - all three were loose. Just took a test drive around my neighborhood (all under 40 mph) and all was great. I'm hoping this fixed it! I'll let you know what happens. . . thanks for all the advice!

Also, is it necessary to completely reseal the MAF where I had to cut away the silicone(?) to remove the lid and reveal the circuit board?

Thanks for telling us what you did to solve the problem you had. Someday other folks will solder the maf based on your information.

No worries. I've noticed that once people get things resolved they oftentimes never bother to come back! For shame. . .

I'm not sure it's necessary, but when I did mine I just put RTV all the way around.
