1996 Maxima build
Hey, does anyone know what I can do to get more horsepower out of my 1996 maxima? Going turbo is too expensive for me right now so just want to build horsepower with all motor. Ive heard that you can swap some vq30de parts with some vq35de parts like the intake manifold and air intake. But I just want to know or need help on what I can do to get top power out of my maxima with all motor. Thanks

First question
How well has your car been maintained, what condition is it in?
The easiest and cheapest way is to perform a good tune up, and make sure that all deferred maintenence has been done.
Beyond that, use the search feature on this forum. This question comes up again and again.

Sounds like a nice low mileage Maxima. One which could be a good car for someone your age.
I'm 62, so my point of view might differ from yours.
Our cars were clocked at 0 to 60 in about 7 seconds when new, and might be capable of something close to that today. It was intended as a four door family car when it was built. One which was also fun to drive.
Acceleration is one thing, reliability is another. If you like to take long trips, like I did, the cooling system is important, as are the brakes and suspension. These might need work right now. These will be even more important should you add more power than the car was designed for.
I'd say do a full maintenence check. Change all iffy fluids.
Tune up. Suspension and brake check. Safety first.
This is a good car to learn and practice mechanical skills.
Enjoy

Look up my thread. Minus the turbo and you have all the engine bolt on stuff you need to get the performance out of the car you want. Read, learn, ask.
Either I am completely genius or completely insane.

Hello and welcome,
I did some bolt ons to my max a couple years ago. Full exhaust with headers, 5th gen 00VI, 5.5 gen injectors and some tuning.
The 00VI was hands down the best mod for the money. I used the 5th gen LIM and 5.5 gen injectors (actually flow closer to stock than the 5th gen ones with better fuel atomize) This way everything is a bolt on affair. My advice is to start with this and go from there. Lots of well written how to guides online about the 00VI.
