Bosch Generic or OEM O2 Sensor?

I need to replace my HO2S 12 Sensor (Bank 1 Sensor 2) because of the familiar P0139/P1147 error codes. I see where I Bosch makes two different versions of this sensor. One they claim is a "generic" replacement and another they call an "OEM" replacement.

The biggest difference I can see from the pictures is that that Generic needs to have the plug end spliced on, while the OEM version has the plug already on it.

The generic is in stock at Auto Zone for about $55. The OEM has to be ordered and runs about $115. My car has 145,000 miles on it. Does anyone have any experience using the Bosch generic version? Or am I better off just spending the extra cash for the OEM replacement?

Just wondering if any of the Org members have tried the Generic and what they thought of them. Thanks!

If cash is low I say go with the plug and splice 02 sensor. If cash is not the issue just go with OEM--which is plug and play.

oxygen sensor

I too have to replace one or two of my sensors (HO2S2, HO2S1). Can someone tell me whether I truly have to 're-program' the ECM? Dealer told me that if I did myself, I could blow the catalytic converter etc. Can't I just replace the sensors with new ones? Thanks.

I never heard of that, they could just be trying to get you to get it installed at the stealership (I could be wrong). I would just replace the 02s, if you have a CEL then just reset the ECU yourself by disconnecting the battery or you can find Reset procedures on the forum.

I know this is an old thread, but i did not want to start a new one. Hopefully someone reads it and gives me their input. I have code p0141. So my question is......do i go with the Bosch part number 13969 which is for bank 1 sensor 2.... the downstrean heated oxygen sensor or do i pay the crazy money the stealership wants just to get rid of this code and pass my emissions test here in Illinois. I heard that it needs to be oem in order to make the code go away and not aftermarket. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Bosch works fine. Just make sure your car has Federal rather than California emissions (many cars, even outside California, do have California emission controls - so be aware). Should your car have California emissions, then you need Bosch 13348 (for downstream Left) or Bosch 13374 (for downstream Right).

Thanks for your help

You can buy Hitachi brand sensors for similar pricing and they are the same as OEM.

To be quite honest, you can go on ebay and purchase generic sensors for a fraction of the OEM cost! I purchased all 4 O2 sensors for my '02 GLE for $80 total. I like going OEM on some stuff (coils, plugs, cv axles), but I've found it less necessary on sensors. If you are truly on a budget, then ebay may be for you!

How long have you been running them?

Was it a listing containing all four? Do you have a link or know the brand?

Thanks! That is about half the price of all 4 Bosch branded sensors.

Did you notice any difference in the length of the wires? Slightly longer would be good for me, but any shorter would be bad. My 02 sensors are not in the stock locations and can benefit from some extra slack.
