loss of power in higher rpm's

So I've got a 2002-2003 Nissan maxima auto. 3.5l the problem is I've changed the plugs and fuel filter in the tank and it has plenty of power w.o.t. until about 4k rpm then it feels like it's choking out. I'm not really sure where to go from here. Any help at all appreciated!

I'm having the same issues anyone have any answers? Maybe the cats are clogged I sometimes smell that weird smell from my exhaust when I go wide open throttle.

I had the same "choking" problem when my MAF went bad (and I didn't know it, as there was no code). So change your MAF - it's an inexpensive part and you should have a spare one at hand anyway (it's only $77 from Courtesy Nissan for my 2000 SE, but it might be a bit more for your car). Should the problem persist, I would look at fuel pressure/delivery and the Cat, as suggested above.

I will look into that. I'm really hoping it's not the cats. It is really weird sometimes if I ease into it past 4k rpm it won't do it as much and has more power.

My Solution: Clean the MAF sensor.

My 2K1 would miss around 3400 rpm and had low power above that RPM.
New coils (one tossed a code) and new spark plugs did not help.
Been like this since I bought it at 85K miles. My other two 2K1's did not do this.

SOLUTION: Today I cleaned the MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner.
WOW. Engine has MORE power at any RPM and no miss around 3400.

Removed MAF and sprayed about 3 seconds, twice into each orifice.
Don't let the tip of the spray stick touch anything on the MAF...
Reinstalled after letting it dry about 5 mins Fired it up and it is good to go.
