I felt sure the time would come when sales would improve. They lagged at first because Nissan seemed to do far less individual ads for the Maxima than with past generations, so folks were not seeing it in action on TV, where most folks seem to spend their spare time these days. I also felt good about this generation long-term because I was getting lots of looks and very favorable remarks from folks looking at mine.

Yes, this 2016 Maxima has a very striking design/style, and there will be those who really like it, and those who don't. But all Nissan needs is to know there are more 'likers' than 'haters.' This 8th generation will be the first in which Nissan actually plans from the beginning to keep for seven or eight years. Maybe it is good that sales began a little slowly, so the design will still seem new for several years, since there are not that many on the road as yet.

Hope it succeeds, being honest most all of the few that I have seen out here in car capital the LA area have been rentals :-(. Clearly identified by the white bar codes on the windows.

Here are the sales figures for 2015 vs 2014 for all Nissans. Just an FYI.

Not too surprising Nissan set December sales records, when we consider that much of December had spring-like weather throughout most of the east. But then the west has had some abominal weather to partially offset the good weather in the east.

Nissan-Reneault has also made much progress in areas such as South Africa, Indonesia and Russia with their Datsun (Dat Go and Dat Do) products. I will always have a soft spot for Datsun (which originated as DAT GO in Japan in 1914 - DAT being the Japanese word for 'fast' and also containing the first initials of the three founders).

The Datsuns I rode around Tokyo in the late 1950s were reliable vehicles. My switching to Datsuns in the 1970s was how I ended up owning Nissans (Nissan Corp used 'Datsun' as the name of their vehicle line until 1984). MONTE is one of the few here who owned a Datsun Maxima (1983 GL model).

I have a selection of Datsun T-shirts I love to wear around town. Always gets conversations going.

The prices seem to be getting much better- I'm seeing some serious discounts out there vs. when I first went shopping and MSRP was the firm price.

Strange that I live in a big metro area and I'm out and about a lot ... and I've only ever seen two on the road. And one of those was being demo'ed by a dealer.

(How do I know? It was coming on the freeway right by the Nissan dealer, with a paper tag in the back window and the Monroney still on the side window.)

2016 Maxima has been on sale for 8 month's.
Total sales approx 34,306 units (first few month's also included 2014 model).
If you divide this total by 50 states that works out to be 686 per state - not many units per state. Now I also now that there are some states/city's
where Maxima's are very popular. Is it possible where you live is one of the states that Maxima is not? Any way just the other day I saw three while I was driving mine.

Here in car capital the Los Angeles area, I rarely see them either. The few that I see all have been rentals, clearly identified by the bar codes on the windows. A bulk of those sales are to Hertz and the Enterprise family, I have rental cars for work in various cities often and the rental lots have a lot 16 Maxima's. I have had 3 in recent months from Hertz.

2016 Maxima Sales increase 117% from last year.
Monthly change 128% - No matter which way you cut it sales are going in the
right direction.
Feb 2016 = 5,222
Feb 2015 = 2,290

Think this is the frist time 2016 Maxima sales went above 5000.

I know I have been seeing many more on the road then in the past few month's.

I'll say it again - This is the best Maxima ever. I continue to enjoy
driving my platinum.

This is a car that has to be seen in the wild in order to appreciate it's design. I have spotted 2 other 2016 Maxima's in this week alone. That compares with seeing two in the last two months earlier. So I am happy to see sales go up but hate to see as many in my area. Such is the story of being first which never means "exclusive" for very long.

My 2014 Maxima lease is up in about 12 months. So, I guess I'll be looking at the 2017 Maxima. Do you guys think they will be offering attractive lease rates again at that time? This is my third Maxima, but I want to make sure I get a good lease when it's time to start looking for #4. Thanks.

First Nissan will most likely eat the last two payments. So actually you have
10 month's remaining. 10 month's puts you out to Jan 2017. That is a long time from now. Many things will change like Money Factor , Residual and
Nissan Incentives. When I leased my 2016 Maxima there were no Nissan
incentives. Currently Nissan has $1650 Bonus Cash to be used towards a
Lease. Good Luck ! All I can say is 2016 MAxima is postively a great car.

8th Generation Maxima sales Year to Date 2016 -
62,670 , 55.3% increase from yr 2015. Does this meet Nissan sales targets.
I really can't answer that question. I certainly don't think this car is a failure.
When you take into account that most cars sales are down while sales of all kinds of SUV's are up. One such cases is the Nissan Rogue, over 40,000 sold in the month of Dec. Looks to me like Rogue has taken away altima sales. Maxima seems to be selling at 5000 + a month clip.

Still loving my 2016 Max Plat.

Nissan's plans call for around 70K Maxima sales each year. It seems they will be close to that goal, which is impressive when we consider how the public has moved away from sedans and toward SUVs and pickups. The Rogue is taking names and kicking a$$e$.

Update: Maxima continues to have robust sales. I know there are or have been better incentives of late but sales are keeping pace and up from 2016.
Sept 2017 = 8404
Oct 2017 = 6741
YTD = 56418 over 3000 more then this time last year.

At the current rate, 2016 Maxima sales are going to be somewhere close to 70K, which is the sales goal Nissan hopes to reach each year with the Maxima.
