My lease ended the 3rd week in July. Since the numbers don't work yet, I extended my lease. Nissan makes it real easy to do this.

Let's not forget the Maxima resides in what is probably one of the worst selling segments of vehicles as a whole...the near luxury sedan market. People are snapping up SUVs left and right in that price range. All the cars in the Maxima's class are struggling to sell right now. One of the Nissan dealers here in Vegas has been discounting the new Maxima since day 1.

This is probably a good car to lease since it has decent residuals, even on the higher end models, and a low money factor right now. That being said, the deals will probably be much better near the end of the year.

Maxima is historically a good car to lease. Right now the Money Factor is high sitting at just over 2%.

2016 Maxima - 8577
2014 Maxima - 1291

I will stop posting updates once inventory reaches 9000.

I did speak to my dealer on Saturday and the lease numbers
are still not there. They are certainly much better then when I first
was quoted lease back in July. Residule is at 57% but money factor
is .00089 (2.1%), still think they can do better. Time is still on my side.

I have never leased so I don't know much. Lets say I trade in my current maxima on the lease and use say 13k as a down payment, my lease payment drops to barely anything. Why is that not a good idea vs a finance? is it then more expensive to buy the car out for the residual value 36 months from now if i choose to?

Never put money down on a lease. At a maximum, only put down 2k. There are a lot of factors that come into play when leasing (residual, MF, etc...). If you want a new car every 3 years... Lease. If you are planning on purchasing the car after the lease, don't lease...Just finance the car. If you have decent credit, you can find auto loans for 2% or even less, nowadays.

Never put down more then 1k on a lease. The most important reason is
if your car is totaled the amount you put down is lost. The insurance will not
cover your down payment.

I been leasing since 1995 the most I put down was 1200. Which was 200
more then I reccomend - I alway start at Zero down and work from there.
Also the 1K down should include your first payment. Some cars will never be
good lease cars because the residual (what the car will be worth at end of
lease ) is to low , also money factor (finance rate) can be confusing. Exampe money factor on 2016 Maxima is .00089 which translates to 2.19%. Other factors do you drive more then 12000 miles per year.
If you do leasing most likely is not for you. After lease is completed turn
car in never , ever buy the car at end of lease. Money Factor and residual
can change every month.

Hope this helps

What the other guys said...I always go for a zero drive-off lease. If you can't afford that payment, then you probably shouldn't be leasing that car in my opinion. The last car I leased I paid zero dollars out the door and got a free iPad thrown in as well. You're better off taking that $13K and throwing it into a savings account or something similar and using that account to make your lease payments from.

While I can see the attraction for a very limited number of buyers, I would never consider a lease. My reasoning is this: If I am leasing a vehicle, I am leasing it from somebody or a corporation. That person/corporation's lease arrangement is going to consider what it costs them to own the vehicle in addition to a healthy profit. So why would I pay ownership costs plus profit?? I prefer to own.

Does anyone truly believe the corp LOSES money on leases??

Leasing certainly isn't for everyone. I drive 17K miles per year and I still prefer to lease over finance. Getting a brand new car every three years is worth it. I can't remember a time in the last 15 years that I've had to deal with any kind of major malfunction or expensive repair on any of my leased vehicles. I find that on a 36 month lease with zero drive off, my monthly payment is typically fairly close to a 60 month finance payment with $10,000 down. Even if I sell the financed vehicle at the 36 month point and payoff the remaining balance, it still comes out being cheaper to lease in some cases, mostly due to putting zero down at the start.

I do get the appeal of financing though, especially if you are going to keep a car long term. Saves a lot of money on car payments in the long run, but the maintenance costs do add up.

I drive less than 7500 miles a year so a lease would work for me miles wise, but if you keep the miles down. (have an SUV i drive on trips etc). It would be fun to have a new car every 3 years but I'm sure it adds up in the end. Then again I paid 36k out the door for my car and 7 years later they offered me 11k after I spent 1500 on repairs at the dealer...so theres really no way to beat the system.

I am fortunate enough to get a monthly car allowance as part of my workplace compensation package. The rub is that I am required to drive a vehicle that is no more than 4 years old. Therefore, I lease, with little to no money down and get a new Maxima every three years for little to no out of pocket expense. As soon as deals on the '16 appear, I will go for #10.

I haven't provided update for a while so here goes.

Aug 26 2015
2016 Maxima - 9588
2014 Maxima - 1178

Still no great promotions. Maybe September
will bring better Nissan programs. Just wanted to
add that my dealer has had no problem selling any
of the 2016 Maxima they have received to date.

My dealer is close to where I shop for grocery's. I also take a trip through the lot to check out the inventory. I purchased my Platinum in late June and at that time they were 3 on the lot - 3 White and 1 black. Took some shots yesterday of the inventory and in particular a red Platinum w/the optional alloys, spoiler, rockers, lights - very loaded. Sticker was $43K. This is first Java I've seen. On the showroom they had a blue pearl SR w/cashmere and sport spoiler. Really nice color combo.

All

Nissan just released August 2015 sales numbers.
Maxima Sales total for month of Aug 2015 = 4250 (this includes some 2014 models)
Maxima Sales total for month of Aug 2014 = 6110

So there has been a decrease of 30.4% form last year.

How much longer are they going to wait to start including good incentives ?

Any dealer telling you they are selling like hotcakes doesn't know the complete picture.

Also Total new inventory of 2016 maximas hasn't increased for 5 days , wonder whats up with that.

Hi Randy,
How or where do u get these great info? I, like most here, would like to see more sales of 8th gen maximas. I'm wondering if historical sales of maxima is at par with competition like toyota avalon and others.

For monthly and YTD sales go to url - nissannews.com around the first of
every month. For total inventory around the USA use nissanusa.com
go to shoping tools and select search inventory. that brimgs you to the
Nissan dealer inventory page and then I select all dealers with a 500+
mile range. Also I use Edmunds .com and http://www.realcartips.com/nissan-incentives for monthly incentives.

By the way there are no new incentives for the 2016 Maxima.

Thanks Randy. I checked since 3 days ago, inventory remained 10514. I guess no one is buying .? Although I want more people to buy Maximas, I do love the exclusivity.

What is a reasonable trade request for a 2009 SV Sport (non-tech) with 31k miles? KBB is now giving me $14500 in "good condition" which is at LEAST the condition of the car. Taking trip this week to dealer.

I suspect those figures are distorted by the large number of vehicles still held back from sale due to the gas tank connection issue. When that is cleared up the excess inventory ought to decline.

Ouch...thanks. Really not too surprising. While the design is polarizing, I've found a lot more people on the "dislike" side of things and like I've said before, the near-luxury class of sedans is probably just about the weakest segment for car sales right now.

Saw a Nissan commercial last night for a $299 a month lease on the the Maxima S, so that may help its slow sales a tad.

That figure means nothing because there is about a 99% chance that it is a lease with low annual mileage and requires money down, as almost all advertised leases do.

I saw that commercial. I believe it $2999 due at signing. I didn't catch the mileage limit.

Well most all leases require money down and are limited to 12-15k which is the "average" miles driven per year by people here in the U.S...... nothing new here. So it means that people into "low" payments might bite to help with the low sales, and a lot of people historically will lease a Max at those low payments despite what they require down, the 8th gen will not break that historic mold.....

Yeah, that's a problem. Putting any money down on a lease is a bad idea. I've run the numbers and a Platinum leased for 36 months at 15K miles per year with zero drive off costs and $3K negotiated off MSRP comes out to about $500/month. I haven't run numbers on an S with zero drive off.

Thanks Randy . That is what I did but it capped the list at 99 on my mobile phone.
I will see if the full site has the same link and also try from a PC.
But it is great information for the potential buyer.
Many thanks for that!

Got it !

Just as I expected.
Mobile site gives option of 250+ miles and caps the list without showing total.
On a PC it worked per Randy's instructions; all models total 16160 today

It always takes a while for the new generation to get out there. Always knew that it would out sale the previous model and do very well for Nissan.

Really not surprised. I knew in the beginning that this Maxima would do very well as it is the best version they have put out to date. Once the public knew it was out there it was only a matter of time. I am seeing quite a few around now, guess the sales results explain why, lol.
