Units sold

Does anyone know any numbers on how the '16 is selling? I am in the market for a '16 pearl white platinum edition. I have been checking the NissanUsa site on a daily basis since they were introduced to dealers, and I see the same vehicles that have been there since day one (even prior to the recall announcement.) I haven't seen a single '16 on the road here in New England. Surely this must help during negotiating a purchase price. Also does anyone know if Nissan will be reviving their "waive the last three payments" program anytime in the near future. I have three to go on my current lease and, although I am willing to wait, would jump early at the right deal.

Last month showed 4000 sold. That had to have included leftover 7th gen since that was a total amount. It would appear that many are waiting for the prices to come down and that a backlog of buyers are watching closely. Nissan has sold the Maxima with big discounts, rebates and customer loyalty incentives in the past so that may be coming back to bite into current sales.

I was offered MSRP as if there was no way to discount the car, so I decided to wait. I think some dealers are holding to sticker and that may be keeping some sales numbers down too.

I also paid MSRP I did get a $500 rebate from Nissan.....although KBB said my trade was worth $23,500 2014 Max SV Sport 22K miles they gave me $25,000 .....i assume they will be offering better deals this fall.....i do see the 7 gen values continue to fall now the 8 gen is out.

I posted an article which said that sales of the redesigned maxima were 4037 units in June.

But that article was wrong as that number represents sales of 2014 maxima as well, which, as everyone knows, has been discounted heavily in order to make room for the 2016.

Sales of 2014 maxima in June of 2014 was 3528 so we have an increase of about 500 units but counting both the 2014 and 2016 units.

At the same time, I really don't care if they sell another maxima for the next 3 years as I love the car and I am enjoying being the only one driving one in Miami. I have not seen another one in the 35 days I have been driving it and I do not care to see another

I've only seen 2 in the month I've had mine and they were at the same intersection one behind the other, neither were being test driven! I am seeing quite a few people pacing behind me for a little bit to look the car over.

I've shown my car to about a dozen people so far and oddly enuf, the thing they are most impressed with is the reading of text messages..

Don't be like me. Once I find my perfect 2016 Maxima, I intend to send a fax to all Nissan dealers telling them no more 2016 Maximas can be sold.

On a more serious note, we know the fuel tank incident that lurked unidentified in the background for over a week has dragged on now for almost another week, and had to have affected sales in July. There are posters here who have been caught up in that. Another factor, as suggested by mis277, is that there are dealers that are still insisting on MSRP. As soon as they have milked that cow dry, they will begin dealing and sales will climb.

Yes! While others are waiting for the price to come down, I am enjoying mine!

7th gen values def are down from 6 months ago, would have been a smart idea to sell mine then rather than the trade offers Im getting so far.

They gave you over KBB but then didnt discount the car. I was presented with a $4000 below KBB and then full MSRP.

July Sales numbers are out. Again this is a combined number for 2014 and 2016 maxima's. July 2015 - 4,175. July 2014 - 5,790. Thats a drop of -27%. June 2015 sales were a combined 4037. This tells me that although dealers are holding to MSRP
sales are going no where but down. There may be also some effect of the stop sell
on some of the 2016 Maxima's. Anyway I continue to wait as there are no programs
availalbe from Nissan, sooner or later something will give ?

It's crazy to me that more people were buying a MY2014 car in the middle of 2015 than are buying a year-ahead model now.

Its prices. Maxima is a BIG lease car. You can currently get a better deal on any car it even loosely competes with.

Huge incentives up to 10/11k off on the 2014's, and some still are not sold on the 16's styling. People are attracted to good deals!

Yuup are new/used (1 to 3 yrs old), the Max just does not hold its initial value as say an Avalon. So a 1 to 3 yr old Max vs same year comparable Avalon tends to be quit a bit cheaper and a better buy.

I Agree with this. And as much as I love my Maxima, this trend goes back awhile. In 1986, I had an '85 Maxima, and was looking for a car for my wife. I found I could buy her another '85 Maxima cheaper than I could get her an '84 Toyota Cressida.

You are one of the very few here who would remember the '84 Cressida was not a new design, but had been around awhile, and that the '85 Maxima was a totally new design, and the first Maxima with FWD.

Nissan USA 2016 Maxima Inventory

I started tracking 2016 Maxima Total Inventory from the Nissan USA site
in the middle of July. Doing so would give us a insite as to how well they may be selling. But I also looked at 2014 Total Inventory remaining. I think once
2016 Maxima Inventory swells and 2014 Inventory get depleted maybe then
Dealers will start selling 2016 Maxima's below MSRP. Also speaking with the
dealer I want to get my 2016 Plat Max , they been telling me that there are
no - none - nada -incentives from Nissan, this includes no VPP , Loyalty , early lease
by backs and any other programs. Hope this helps and I can update this
every couple of days.

Mid July -
2016 MAX - 6514
2014 MAX - 1947

July 31 2015
2016 MAX - 6760
2014 MAX - 1679

Aug 3 2015
2016 MAX - 6738
2014 MAX- 1481

Aug 6 2015
2016 MAX - 7121
2014 MAX - 1440

Again I will wait.
Inventory is starting to climb.

how does Carmax discount this car 3-4k depending on the model right away? Is it because the make money on the interest rates?

They have an 2016 SL 38k down to 34k and change? My dealer said sticker, no debating it. Whats different here?

They "pay" way less for these cars than people realize. Modern day Invoice price is pure bs, the true cost is WAY below that. Over the last 10 years the car sales industry has completely changed.
The difference is your dealer thinks the Market will pay sticker and is willing to hold out for it. Car Max would rather move the car now.
I guarantee you they would still make money 10000 below sticker..... manufacturer to dealer incentives, they are not losing money.
Ever see a car dealership that is not a multi-million dollar operation?

Makes sense. I don't fault them for wanting MSRP, but I'm just not willing to pay it.

You wont have to, the Max unfortunately is a car with a history of only selling decently with huge discounts/incentives or as I say I good "new/used' buy meaning 1 to 3 yrs old with its much lower initial resale value vs say an Avalon. If you pay MSRP or a markup for a Max well ummm...lets leave it at that. The proof is in the pudding with many dealers already marking it down several thousands is saying that this thing is not moving like they/we thought lets do something to help. Even a recently restyled competitor the TLX is suffering from low sales, Acura is offering nice lease deals and huge incentives as well. As much as many of us that might like these recently remodeled cars in the org, the general buying public is not as receptive. Just keeping it real as they say!

I see a platinum lease offer on the website for 410 a month for the platinum i believe its 2999 down. Not interested in leasing, but thats the first higher model lease I've seen.

Customers are conditioned to wait for rebates, loyalty programs and sharp discounts. Nissan's inability to sell at near retail is a product of past policies. This 8th generation will remain a slow seller until Nissan loosens up once again.

Puzzles me that they would not have an early push to get the flagship on the streets and create a demand? Or...perhaps the new generation is simply not as appealing as we thought. Oh, they really need to stop the 4DSC junk also. It should be a great car at a bargain price but they set the bar in the wrong place and that is what the automobile rags complain about.

I think its a great car. I think you're right however, that were used to at least 0% loans on the cars, and some discounts or rebates. Clearly some people are getting good discounts, just have to try a few dealers.

Yes. There is also a 385 lease on the SR and a 319 on the S. NO offer on SL or SV. All are 2999 down which is basically paying down the monthly by 83 dollars. Money Factor is still high, for a Maxima.
Nissan is being much more aggressive with the Murano. Using the Murano numbers for a Maxima would yield a monthly payment about 45-55 dollars a month less depending on the model.
This will inevitably become the Maxima program. Depends how long we wait.

The gap in the production crossover may have been larger than usual. There was no 2015 Maxima and I think the 2014 had been stopped being produced a while ago. Whenever a new car debuts, the sales in the first few months are always a combination of deals on the older model and the new model ramping up and slowly taking over the sales mix. There may be a lack of the last gen Maximas to pad the numbers like a usual car launch.

That's just a possibility.

Just in the last week I've seen a dozen around my city and they were all the Silver, Brown and Red colors. I have only seen one Blue and one Pearl white.

Will Nissan ever say the numbers of the colors sold or set for production this year? I know Ford usually says ahead of time how many they intend to build and then the final numbers later on.

In the past production was set between 60 and 70 thousends cars.
We did read that they had planned to up production by 8% for 2016
Maxima.

Have yet to see one on the road. They don't seem to be selling in this neck of the woods. I have seen the same inventory on the web for the past two months. And I am not surprised. I asked numerous dealers for their best quote on a '16 Premium that, with a few additional features, had a MSRP of just short of $42K. The lowest offer that came back was $3K down and $471/month for a 36 month lease. (This, by the way, after explaining my loyalty to Nissan and the dealership over the past 28 years). I had to laugh. First of all, I wont put more that $1k down on a lease. Second, I could get into a '15 Q50 AWD Premium for $0 down and $399 down. Prices will need to come down soon or my love affair with Maxima will have to end.

I don't think that's a love affair, that's a business relationship. lol

I think the value on the new Maxima is really with the base model. In this segment I didn't find any new '15 or '16 vehicle with anything near its character and standard features for its cash price.

I agree with you. I also lease and my lease ends Nov 9 2015. I hope by then
incentives return. If not I plan to extend my current lease on a monthly basis. Also will start looking at other cars, although nothing really excites me.
