Need A Lot of help acc belt tensioner.

UPDATE: okay, i figured out why i could get it to go up after i removed it, but I have a new and larger problem. The damn belt tensioner is cocked a little which is making the belt slide off the bottom of the pulley and rub on the screws. How did this happen? Its a new belt tensioner that I bought back in september 03 and its been working fine for about 4000 miles, now this crap. It just started doing this out of now where. anyone have any suggestions?

Old: I just had to completely removed mine because it wouldn't slide up once I loosen it from the belt. It was frozen in the down position. I bought this one after breaking the original and maybe I didn't put it together correctly, does anyone have any pics of it and the order in which all the pieces should be put together?

Also, I had a hard *** time removing it from the car because I had tightened it so far down that the belt was 2-3 mm away from the bottom bolt, i had to use an open ended wrench to get it off. I never thought I was over tightening it, but I guess I was. I would only tighten it a little whenever the car squelled at start up, so does anyone have a tightening procedure that I should follow. Strangly though, I went to return the belt thinking it had stretched some, but it hadn't. The parts store still exchanged it for me, but they new and old belts were the exact same length. If this is so, why was the belt so close to rubbing the bottom bolt?

I know everyone here has busy live, but I could really use any kind of help answers quick because I can't put the belt back on the max until I know how to do it right. Thanks

The Haynes manual says nothing about it, but you've got to loosen the 14mm nut that holds the tensioner pulley before the tensioner can work.

I broke a tension adjuster learning this 'key' bit of information.

Good Luck!

yeah, that sounds like an idea, only problem is i don't even know which was i would bend it, and sinces its a rod and a back plate, i don't know which one is actually causing the problem.

The pulley mounts pretty solid. I would have a hard time believing the tensioner would bend its mount.

You'll just have to get in there and see what's bent, and either bend it back or purchase a new one.

Good Luck!
