96 max vs 99 grand prix gt

hey just a quick question i have a friend that has a 1999 pontiac grand prix gt sedan with an intake and straight pipes. he took it to the track and ran a 15.8 quarter mile. I have a 1996 gle w/ frankencar hai and warpspeed y-pipe and hi-fli cat. we both are auto's and i was wondering if we took the cars to the track who would be faster? assuming our reaction times were the same, and we were racing under the same conditions. thanx

Hey I have a friend who has a 97 grand prix with an intake and straight pipes. And I have 99 max with a frankencar car intake and cattman y-pipe. Both of us are also auto. The last time I asked this question the majority of the response was yes that I would beat him if I got a good start. So I think you should be able to take him.

I was under the impression that gt's aren't fast. I thought they were in the mid 16's

its really depends on the driver, but I think you can take him. You should be afraid of thr GTP's

GTP's are junk.

j/k

With light mods, they are doing low-mid 14's. Not too bad in my book.

Fernando.

p.s. Yes, you will take the Grand Prix. The GT after "Grand Prix" should stand for "Goat Turd", these cars can't get out of their own way.

Your friend is pretty much stock. Those mods aren’t going to do much for a GP GT, but he should have at least run 15.5 – 15.6. I’m not familiar with mods for the Maxima, but it may come down to a driver’s race. It seems that your friend may not be the greatest driver so you may edge him out, but there’s only one way to find out for sure. Go to the track and find out.

Don’t sleep on the GP GT. Though we aren’t the fastest in the bunch, not all of us are pushovers.

wow that's a great time on your GPGT!

What do those cars generally run stock and with what sort of 60' times? I guess other guys hate it, but I love that 3800 engine. Very smooth and torquey, even if it does get a bit wheezy sounding at the top.

It will probably be a pretty close race your car is probably good for low 15s and his is about mid 15s so that's not much of a difference.

I’d say a bone stock GP GT should run about 15.7-16.0. With a decent driver and track prep it may be able to pull a 15.5 –15.6. I don’t know what type of 60s guys with stock GTs get. I know I need to work on mine. I’m usually in the 2.2X range. I would like to consistently pull 2.0 to 2.1X. My best 60ft time ever is 2.195. On my PB my 60ft time was 2.22.

Anyhow, glad to see someone that appreciates GMs ole pushrod workhorse.

The GT's are dog slow. My ex girlfriend had one and it had no pickup at all. You will murder it, espically a 4 door. They are like boats on wheels.

Some of the times on that list are old, but you get the idea.
