Launching with an auto

How would you guys launch with an auto??? Would you floor it right away(wheel spin), or would you press on the pedal, but not floor it all the way, then eventually floor it??

Thanks

It all depends on track conditions, torque of the car, and tires you're racing on. I wish I could stall it up and launch at WOT but I can't.

Well I think I just hit the track on a slick day. I was only making a little over 315whp and around 390tq so the slicks should have held in decent conditions. I was even spinning them on motor a little that day. I never went back after that day so I don't have to much info to offer. If you plan to run a 150 shot like on your 95 you might need to remove the speed limiter. Mine was shifting into 4th right at the line with the 100 shot, so with 50 more whp you might hit the 130 limiter. If I remember correctly my speedo read around 122 mph when crossing the line.

My 95 was well into 4th at the end of the 1/4 ie over 5k, what I would like it to do is hit 6k in 4th at the end but not likely to happen with the shot I am planning.

Doubt I will hit a 150, probably use a 35 or 50 off the line and then hit it with another 50 or 75 after the 1-2 shift, don't want to get too carried away. I may try a 150 if I am getting really close to a time I want but don't plan on doing that except under those circumstances. I do want it to last a couple of seasons.

Do you plan to do any form of weigh reduction to the 02? The one clean run I got was a 12.9@106 with a crappy 2.0 60'. I spun through first and it shifted to 2nd early and bogged pretty bad thus getting a crappy trap speed. I think with the car gutted IE seats, spare only and some traction the car was good for a low 12 @ 109-110 with the 100 shot and basic bolt ons.

Thats what I am hoping for. My 60's were always really good even with a 35 shot it did a 1.8. Planning on doing the same stuff I did to the 4th Gen as far as weight reduction. Seats, sound deadening, bumper supports, battery etc. I usually leave the rear and passenger seat, its pretty light and then I don't have people look in and say "oh its gutted"

Never did get a chance to run the dual stage last year so that will be new to learn and get set up as best I can do and I now have a wideband so I can tune the S-AFCII which I didn't do anything with last year so it should be fun. As far as other mods, just the exhaust and intake like the 4th Gen.

Only thing that could be a problem is not having the vlsd, I am not sure how much difference it will make, David did a 1.8 60' using same setup as me with an open diff 4th Gen so hoping it will be ok.

Matt you also had a GREAT N/A time, not sure if I can equal that or not but thats my first goal to try and get it as fast as I can without the spray.

Glad to hear it worked out for you.

Our track is under 4 ft of snow. I don't want to hear it.

It all depends on the mods you have on your car. Are you rolling on larger rims? Best way to find out is at a redlight. Floor it when it turns green, next light power brake it around 2500rpm and see how it goes. if you got wheel spin then do the hesitation flooring method but if not, floor it from the get-go
