tire traction

I'm just curious how much worse my times will be with tires that don't have much tred left on them?

Without much tread you've elimited tread squirm (bite) so perhaps back off on the rpm's or how fast you slip the clutch (if 5sp). The answer could depend on what rubber compound is left there and if the same as the original outer tread. Bald tires do not equal slicks.

What!?!? Then the last few days spent cutting off my tread with a knife was a waste of time!

I dunno, I just thought it might be the reason why I lost to a stock accord cause I cna't figure it out. I know my tires are cracking a lot, but I'm not relaly sure if its why I'm slower.

Not necessarily - keep cutting. That's the outermost rubber with the heaviest rotational inertia. Shave it down to the cords and you'll take off 2-3lbs per tire easy.

Any chance you can sneak away saturday and come out to Byron? Neal is gonna be down and Brian is comming out with his Z. Weather will be perfect, 40's and sunny with a tail wind.
