New personal best 13.43 @ 102.3
this is a copy/paste of my thread in the general forum i didn't mean to post it there but oh well.
Mike, Brian and I hit Byron saturday morning. Here's my results:
Mods: JWT Popcharger, PR midpipe, MEVI at 5400rpm, Cattman SS Ypipe, Warpspeed test pipe, MR SS catback. Race weight varied from about 3070 at heaviest to 3005 with stuff removed and running the slicks.
I ran in 4 configurations, here is the first which was spare removed only, on 33lb combo of 17x7.5" SSR Competitions and dangerously bald 235-40-17 Toyo T1-S (almost corded I am taking them off the car and putting my snow tires back on they are that bad).
My first pass of the day after I took my toolbox, food, CDs, slicks and spare out of the car was a 14.004 @ 100.4 with a 2.25 60' so I knew it was going to be a good day. I lost that timeslip but I am excellent at remembering numbers and that's how they ended up. I made 1 more pass in this configuration and ran a 14.112 @ 100.22 with a 2.27 60'. That slip looks like this:
Time 12:49
R/T .559
60' 2.270
330' 6.092
1/8 9.194 @ 79.44
1000' 11.863
1/4 14.112 @ 100.22mph
The second configuration was the addition of 2 gallons of 104 octane race gas to about 4 gallons of 93 octane gas, resulting in a mixture of about 96.7 octane.
The first timeslip from that config, where I beat a stock 350Z 6spd which ran 14.21 @ 99.88mph on a 2.25 60'
Time 1:44pm
R/T .528
60' 2.286
330' 6.023
1/8 blank
1000' 11.754
1/4 13.993 @ 100.46mph
Finally I got off the line decently and I ran this:
Time 2:06pm
R/T .478
60ft' 2.191
330' 5.923
1/8m 9.002 @ 79.75mph
1000 11.657
1/4m 13.893 @ 100.69mph
Third configuration I ran in was my typical ricer configuration where I removed the 40lb passenger seat and the 10lb foam rear bench. All other variables remained the same.
First and best pass:
Time 3:00pm
.383
2.188
5.945
8.995 @ 80.87mph
11.620
13.830 @ 102.00mph <--best street tire ET and MPH for me
Second pass:
Time 3:11pm
.718
2.205
5.966
9.019 @ 80.85mph
11.642
13.852 @ 102.00mph
Third pass:
For some reason I had a brain fart and I shifted into 2nd gear at 6800rpm. I was thinking I needed to shift at 200rpm past the stock redline, rather than 200rpm past 7000. The timeslip clearly reflects this 400rpm shift difference, even though it was only a factor on one shift.
Time 3:26pm
.513
2.227
6.007
9.082 @ 80.09mph
11.723
13.944 @ 101.35mph
Finally I'd had enough with the street tire throttle and clutch modulation BS and put on the meats. The millenia wheels and meats weigh 25lbs for the combo.
First pass:
I didn't do much of a burnout on this pass, instead I burned my clutch mostly. I tried rolling forward out of the water and burning out in 2nd gear which wasn't a great idea. I never did see more than a little wisp of smoke, normally it's billowing and filling up the car. All I could smell was clutch, not tires. Oops. I figured I was screwed for the rest of the day because I have overheated the clutch before and it took a long time for it to be back to normal. This launch was weird because the clutch was hot and didn't grab like it normally does, I sortof rolled off the line, slicks didn't spin at all which they normally do because of the decreased clutch grab. Also both shifts were a bit soft and not 'grabby". I had the slicks set at about 14.5psi cold.
Time 4:26pm
.927
1.933
5.598
8.632 @ 81.46mph
11.261
13.473 @ 102.22mph
Second pass:
Slicks still at 14.5psi cold
Time 4:33pm
.457
1.973 <---spun slicks kinda badly off launch, I didn't dry hop them like normal
5.678
8.722 @ 80.57mph
11.356
13.572 @ 101.83mph
Third pass:
time 4:40pm
.377
1.918
5.629
8.675 @ 81.26mph
11.313
13.533 @ 101.88mph
All three of these runs were done on a unhappy clutch from what I described earlier. The shifts were not grabby and the RPMs fell slowly on shifts. I needed to let it rest a while to get some grab back in the clutch. So I let the car cool for 45 mins and got back in line.
Fourth pass:
time 5:28pm
.477
1.898
5.559
8.592 @ 80.82mph
11.222
13.431 @ 102.34mph <--- new personal best ET and trap
Fifth pass:
Time 5:33
.552
1.885
5.540
8.584 @ 80.45mph
11.222
13.440 @ 101.70mph
Sixth pass:
Time 5:37pm
.597
1.969
5.670
8.713 @ 81.36mph
11.348
13.566 @ 101.99mph
By this point in time there were no cars left running. It was myself, Mike, and 2 other cars. I decided any more runs were just abuse, and I wasn't going to run any faster. So I kissed the steering wheel and called it a day.
This car has a 13.3 in it if I had an aftermarket clutch and maybe some wider slicks, as I can spin them pretty well off the line dumping it from 5500 on the stock clutch. But that will never happen because that isn't in the plans for this car. Unless my current plan totally changes, 13.43 @ 102.3 is as fast as it will go n/a.
BTW I have most of these runs on video and they will be posted if Brian ever gets around to ripping them.

Great times Neal, I didn't get a chance to thank you for letting me run your slicks. Wish I had that good of times. My best for the day was a 14.33@94.89. I would have to run more with slicks to get use to them. I bet I could get into 14.1. I might go invest in some slicks now. Funny I put the car on the scale with your slicks. The car was 2905 lbs. It seemed very low.

Great runs again! Sorry I couldn't have been there - that was part of 4thGen Max history. And good data collected because your so consistant. Does this sound close?
96.7 octane vs 93 - .1sec
remove 50lbs weight - .05sec
lighter slicks - .3sec lanch =.4sec ET
Thus your full race config drops about .55sec ET.

I will be there onthe 17th and will be running the same setup minus the slicks, and I will try to make some more runs before and after race gas, so that we can get some more data for the people that it concerns in the future who are running aftermarket ECUs and debating race gas.

I think the race gas takes time to fully mix, or whatever.
I put one gallon of 104 into 2 gallons of 93 before I made any runs. I started out the day with 96mph traps and finished with 99mph traps. My 60's also started out at 2.3's and went to 2.2's so maybe that had something to do with it.

A set of front toyos lasts about 15,000 miles before negative camber has them worn almost smooth on both edges. I run them in the front til the inside edge is really low then I have the tires taken off the wheels and swapped to the other wheels so that the inside is now the outside.
If I were more diligent about getting the tires rotated and the edges swapped back and forth I could probably get 25K out of a set of 4 before all 4 need to be replaced due to wear.
This includes usually 1-3 lapping days, maybe an autoX or 2, probably 30-40 1/4 mile passes (before I switch to my slicks I like to make street tire passes each time) and the rest is pretty hard driving though no burnouts from lights or anything like that.

I don't think the ECU has any idea what kind of gas is being used. It's not like there is a octane sensor in the gas tank. The octane will change how much knock is present, which in turn will change the reading from the knock sensor, which in turn will tell the ECU to either retard or advance timing. I think it's just a matter the higher octane mixing with the rest of the gas and reaching the engine.
I have no idea, but how long do you think it takes the fuel in the fuel line to completely cycle it's self through? I hope I made that quetion clear......as in how long would it take for the fuel that was in the fuel lines before the race gas was put in to be use up. (hope this makes sense)

Very nice Neal... I noticed that you do not have an upgraded ECU listed in there at all... I thought you had one for some reason.
14.11 on street tires and no ECU is awesome!!
Mike (Infiniti), I haven't seen a post of your slip for your PB... is it around here somewhere?

My PB was back in October
2.14
5.98
9.14 @77.22mph
11.89
14.19 @ 98.54
I ran a best 14.22 @ 99.44mph last week, but I am going back out on the 17th and hope to run 13's with the slicks I just bought from Neal.
