Maxima.org: 1/4 mile "Reaction Time" Challenge for May 2004

Maxima.org: 1/4 mile "Reaction Time" Challenge for May 2004

Anyone who wants to have a little fun this month can join in. For the month of May/2004. Post your best reaction time in this thread. Please specify .000 or .500 tree.

This will be a Top 10 list, and the person with the best R/T will be King !

If you go race several times in the Month of May, just make another post updating the info. I figure this will be pretty fun and might also help us to cut a better light at the track with the competition.

For the top spot (#1) a timeslip must be posted!

Hope some Maxima racers participate and good luck !! I aim to win this one.

Anybody can cut a good light. Anybody can do a perfect light. Anybody can win the lottery. I don't agree with this competition. Now, lets find out your average RT over a period of one night at a bracket race. If you redlight, YOU LOSE. If I went to the drag strip trying to cut a perfect light everytime, I probably would get a .500. It's just a matter of time. But since I can LOSE the race with a redlight, I don't shoot for a perfect light. I like to shoot for .520 to .540.

I flipped through my logbook real quick for the 2003 bracket racing season and I cut one .507, but it was an accident and I almost lost the race by redlighting. But I also figure up my average RTs over a period of a night, then I can quickly see my average RT for that race and decide if I need more practice or not.

One bracket race is anywhere from 3 to 9 runs depending on how many rounds and how many time trials I get. Starting from the beginning of the 2003 bracket race season, here are my averages:

2003 #2 Points Race - .577 Won that race
2003 #4 - .589 Lost in 1st round
2003 #5 - .580 Won that race
2003 #7 - .592 Won that race
2003 NHRA Sport Compact time trials day 1 - .582
2003 NHRA Sport Compact Eliminations Day 2 - .566 Tied for 3rd out of 55 cars
2003 #8 - .633 Lost in 1st round with a .672 light .. lol
2003 #9 - .548 (My best average over 8 runs) Placed Runner Up
2003 #10 - .587 Placed Runner Up
2004 #1 - .553 Placed Runner Up

Usually, I will have one terrible light in one night. So without that .610 or so, my average would drop. But averages are the best way to go since they show your worst lights. That's how you get better. By keeping up with your averages. I cut BY FAR the best lights in my Sport Compact class. There are several really good bracket racers in my class, but then again, there are several stupid ricers that think they can bracket race in their 5spd Civic.

Last season, I didn't make every race. If I made every race, then I would have had a very good chance of winning the championship. But I made it to the finals in 5 out of the 7 points bracket races I attended. This season, I will make every bracket race. Runner up isn't bad for my first race. I cut a .559 to my opponents .527 and I had him beat at the end of the 1/4 mile b/c he ran a little slow, I slam my brakes and didn't close the gap enough. %^%&^%@$@ I lost in the finals b/c I broke out. I had more room to close the gap but didn't get hard enough on the brakes. Oh well, there will be other races. I'm off to a decent start.

Very good. I knew you had some tree skills. LOTS of practice like me. lol Keep track of those averages. They can teach you a lot. Go get a logbook. Summit racing and Jegs has them. I got mine from friends for free. It will be SO easy to review your runs. They are really only for bracket racing.

I agree with you about consistency. My average RT was.0568 at my last bracket racing comp. at our local 1/8 mi. track.

well for the this month will stick to the topic and come up with something else next month.

when posting your best reaction time put something like this:

BEST REACTION TIME FOR MAY: .091 (example)

if you go again and beat that just make another post and i will dig all the info out.

The heck with reaction time, when I go Saturday, I'll just concentrate on my launch. If I run what I'm hoping to run, but with a 1.xxx R/T...it would be just fine with me.

Ran this slip tonight:
.510
2.199
6.028
9.136 @ 79.26mph
11.824
14.094 @ 99.28mph

This was my best RT of the night. I'll be trying again next week if the weather is good.

I also had a .528 but the rest were in the .6s and even some .7s

I pulled a .509 and it was pure accident. .50s and .51s are always accidents when I bracket race.

Oh yeah, I WON last night! That makes my 1st victory this season. So far I have a 2nd place finish in #1 points race and 1st place finish in #2 points race. #3 race is next Sat.

I got $90 for 1st place and $25 for having the best reaction time in my class in a 1st round win. I think it was .530 or something. And of course a big trophy. Well I did .509 in time trials and I decided to tone it down a bit and then I start cutting .550s and stuff. I hate losing a race with a redlight.

I do too and I do it quite often. Last year I lost in the semi finals with a .496 light and this year with a .493 light. It makes me sick if I wouldn't have done that I would have a guaranteed $100 and a chance at $250 if I would have won the finals

Congrats on the win Aaron. The next bracket racing shootout at my local track will be coming up soon. I'm hoping to take home the trophy this time, I placed third last time.

Hopefully this answers your questions, as well as your doubts... I have both of our times in one picture, since I ran against him when he got his .006, and then the next race I went all for reaction time and didn't care about my 1/4 which is why my 60' is trash and so is my 1/4... By the way, as you can verify by some of your slips, I'm 890 and Dallas. is 907.

Well, here is my best from my first night of racing at the track:

.027 on a .000 tree.
My trap sucked, but the reaction is okay.

Why is it, frosty, that when you get good RT's your 1/4 mile times suck? Mine were the same. (other than pretty much all of my RT's sucked. ha ha ha)
