03 Maxima 6spd Dragway42 1/4mi

Went to dragway42 again today. Ran real inconsistant all night. I was either bogging or spinning or my car was heated up. I only have two good runs the whole night (out of 9). Weather wasnt as good as I thought it was going to be. Temp started at 78@6:45pm and ended at 69@10pm. Humidity started at 60% and ended at 83%. Pressure unknown. Altitude is 900ft.

Mods:
OBX catback
K&N GAB (filter bracket removed - coat hanger used)
TS ECU
Motostorm UDP
Weight reduction: all weather mats, trunk carpet, trunk liner, spare, and jack removed.
Tires: Falken Ziex ZE-512 235/45/17s front tires at 25psi

Luanch technique: Spin 2-3 sec to clean tires. Slip @ 2200rpm ~70% throttle moving smoothly to 100% in about 1.5 sec.

Me -- Opponent
Rxn 0.814 -- 0.336
60' 2.162 (best) -- 2.089
330' 6.070 -- 5.962
1/8ET 9.271 -- 9.204
1/8MPH 77.08 -- 77.05
1000' 11.951 -- 11.870
1/4ET 14.266 -- 14.175
1/4MPH 98.02 -- 99.10

My first run of the night. I had just turned into the strip and got in the then short line(tire pressure was 35psi normal driving pressure for me.) Oddly enough despite not airing down my tires I got my best 60' yet. I am gonna not air down my tires next time the whole night and see what happens. I posted opponent times becuase its a 2004 Mustang GT 5spd with some minor bolts ons (exhaust intake etc). I chatted with the owner most of the night when track prep and other classes were running. He was hoping for 13s with his current best at 14.038.

Rxn 0.225
60' 2.196
330' 6.049
1/8ET 9.221 (best)
1/8MPH 77.46
1000' 11.897
1/4ET 14.207 (best)
1/4MPH 98.05

Last run of the night. Let the car cool for 30 minutes. I could have hit 14.1s if I had a slightly better 60'

It must have been EVO night becuase there were atleast 5 of them there. I saw one that ran a 13.0@112 or some such mph. There was also this old beat rusty ford truck there with a cap on the back. I ran against it twice with it running 20.201@68.59 and 20.310@68.27. Its a beast I tell you!!!

hey man, enjoyed reading over the racing stats. here is a site dave b turned me onto. http://www.wunderground.com/ you can search for the weather at a certain city and they have a great almanac feature. it will show you the bp and everything else pretty much for each hour of the day.

good runs, you have gotten that car moving down the track.

Hey I see you go to dragway 42 also. I usually go on tuesdays and may start going on saturday for trophy nights. I dont think I will be going any time soon becuase the temp right now is way up there. I will never go to 42 again on a friday... its not worth it. I do however go to magnolia raceway in magnolia (about 30min south of the falls) on fridays becuase there is less of a crowd. My friend from new philadelphia has a lightning as well. He has a pulley and some other mods but is currently untuned. I beleive he made 405whp/515wtq STD at bigshotdyno in hudson. I just looked at your car's pages. Looks like we go to the same dynoshop and the same dragstrip. If you want to coordinate a time to meet at the strip or a group deal at bigshotdyno some time let me know.
Edit: Oh I just noticed that the yellow v6 mustang on the bigshotdyno site had the same numbers as the yellow v6 mustang on your site but was labeled as Melissa's. Then I glanced at your "honey's site" and it all came together. Tell me... is it a big pain in the *** to justify dynoing the cars with your wife too or is it just my wife whos the pain?

You can check out my dynos here:
Dynos (make sure you view it at actual size. It looks like crap otherwise.)

If you like fast cars that get good mileage then mine should do pretty good. I am not sure if 14.2 qualifies as fast, but I call it quick. It also gets 30.5mpg (75%highway) according to my last gas mileage calc.

your tires....are those 235/45's on stock 17x7 wheels?

I've been told that they were too wide, but I see people with them on all the time.

thanks

I typically avoid Tuesday nights and I might go on a Friday night. I have been racing at D42 for almost 12 years and those two nights are horrible for most. I have found the best day to go to D42 is Sunday, first thing. You can get a boat load of runs in and the track is prepped well.

Something that a lot of people forget is to correct to the density altitude at the time of the run.

Magnolia, have not been there in years. I have raced many 1/8 tracks...I just never took to them.

Your bud, does he have a black Lightning.

I work part-time at Big Shot Dyno tuning cars, primarily Mustangs. That is why I dyno everything I get my hands on...a perk is virtually unlimited dyno time for no cost. I drove her car up there on day and said heck, let's see what the thing puts down. She was curious when I got home...then basically said "ok".

You should head down next time I go to Tusc...I put the hurting on some guys last weekend in my tow truck (the Lightning).

Yes my tires are 235/45 on stock wheels. I have heard that yes they are over spec, but they are only about 104% of spec. Like most things companies have built in safety buffers to reduce problems due to products. I was told as long as you keep good pressure in them you wont have a problem. I keep mine at 35psi unless I am at the track. Of course I could have been told completely wrong and could be in danger, but I wouldnt have got the tires if I thought that was true.

Ah okay I know who you are now! When we did the group deal at bigshot they were talking about a guy that works part time there that also has a lightning. Yes my friend has a black lightning. I never posted corrected runs becuase well... I thought people might think that is cheating. Yeah, magnolia kinda reminds me of someone just throwing a track down on some farmland. It certainly isnt the best dragstrip around. Man that is awesome to have such a tool at your disposal! They need a guy to do some ***** work around there, maybe clean up organize stuff? I wouldnt mind some free dynos! Hell I would work just for dyno time.

Whats in Tusc? Tuscarawas county? Whatever it is... if I got the time I am up for some fun.

I decided to see what my best runs were like when they were corrected for altitude. I used the correction factors on this website:
http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...s/quarter.html
I had to extrapolate the factors. Doing some simple math I noticed the trend is linear at -0.0013 per 100ft for 1/4 ET and 0.0014 per 100ft for 1/4MPH. At 900ft the correction factor for 1/4ET is 0.9913 and the correction factor for 1/4MPH is 1.0087.

My best 1/4ET run of 14.207@98.05 when corrected for altitude is: 14.082@98.90.

My best 1/4MPH run of 14.302@99.52 when corrected for altitude is: 14.178@100.39

I like correcting for altitude!!

Hmm the trend does not appear to be linear under 1200ft as {12 times -0.0013 } +1 = 0.9844 does not equal the number listed which is 0.9874. Likewise to the the MPH factor (calculated 1.0168 compared to the listed 1.0129). Taking the 1200ft listing and dividing it by 12 gives 0.00105 per 100ft for the ET factor and 0.001075 for the MPH factor. Using these numbers gives even better times. I have to imagine the actual factor being between them. I'll just use the low ball previously calculated numbers.

Woohoo more Ohio ppl! I know Cantonracer already. Damn Lightning guys... bgates1654 you should check out ohiodsms.com. Its a bunch of ppl from Ohio that hang out together and go racing and ****. Not just DSM's......actually there are more other diff cars than DSM's lol.
I go to Magnolia all the time too.....i used to have a loud *** white Z24 but know i got a Buick Regal and am planning on a Magnolia visit this Friday to see if i can lay down some low 9's in the 1/8. I was just on this site looking to see what the stock times for my dads new 2004 3.5 SE would run cuz he says he'll whip my ***. He's stock i'm not so we'll see.
West Tusc. what Cantonracer is talking about is just a street here in Canton where everyone cruises along and find races and bs's. Alot of people hang out at Horizon Motorsports all the time too late night.

You talking about 172? Where at on 172? West Tusc looks like its down town Canton, which would mean, to me, not a very good area to street race. I prefer long two lane back roads with atleast a 1/2mi between lights and with few to no side roads. I might head on out to magnolia depending on how the weather looks this friday. I have heard of someplace called "the strip" in canton by the canton/akron airport. Many ohionissans.com (something is wrong with the site... some people can get on, some cant) people have talked about "the strip" and hanging out at Horizon motorsports. I havent been out there yet, but I would like to check it out sometime.

We don't race on Tusc we have our places where the pigs don't ever hang out. Some ppl race on Tusc. put thats playin with fire there! "The Strip" is just a hangout or cruising spot and no racing. A bunch of ppl usually hang out at the local Starbucks which is boring. Horizon Motorsports where everyone hangs out is aross town along West Tusc. Theres alot of rice along here to burn.

Sweet! Sounds like fun. When do people usually meet up around there? I might be mistaken for rice and surprise a few people.

I used to be into the elevation correction bigtime...then I was sniffing around a airplane site one day and learned about DA. DA is density altitude and that is a much better and more accurate way of correcting runs.

What was the date and times of your runs.

Example, 8/13/04 @ 12:00 noon, 12.640@108.33 mph.

This works out to be at Norwalk with 700', but the DA was 1486' because of the weather. That is the correct way to correct times. So my run at 0' elevation would really in theory be a 12.44@110.08 mph.

8/17/04 9:56pm for the 14.207@98.05 run and 6/4/04 10:11pm for teh 14.302@99.52

Are you heading out to the strip in canton tonight? I might come on out there tonight. Also Friday is looking like some good drag racing weather. I might head on out to magnolia (wish they were a 1/4mi strip) and get some runs in.

Your first run had a DA of 1129 and corrects to 14.04@99.23

Your second run had a DA of 1140 and corrects to 14.13@100.73

I don't head out there much...maybe once a month. Have to much work to do.
